Re: How To ?????????

A side from this being very vague. there are 6 bolts that hold it to the frame. And then there are the wires on the engine. fuel line & tranny lines if an auto. And brake lines. other than that, get 1 or 2 buddies to help pick it up. they aren't very heavy if you've taken out the junk.

Re: How To ?????????

Park it on a street in East LA for a couple of hours...LOL! I'm just being a smart a$$! Disconnect the steering, parking brake, ground strap and front clip while you are at it. The front clip will come off with about 8 bolts and will make pulling the cab much easier.

Are you just replacing a badly rusted cab or do you have other plans? The major rust areas can be repaired without removing the cab. If you have major firewall/cowl rust or drip rail rust along with the standard rockers, corners and kick panels then it is best to just replace the cab...but I am sure you already know that. Have fun!

Remove the tank, seat and doors before lifting it off since it will make it much lighter.

Re: How To ?????????

You can take an engine hoist, slip it inside with a 4x4 fastened to the top,and raise it up.

Re: How To ?????????

Just restore everything on the front end and just before you put it all back together, take the cab off like I did. Hope you got a lift.
Just watch the picture backwards.

Re: How To ?????????

The way Special K said is a way i have done it as well --- my contraption i rigged up to do it basically did the same thing Rkcrwlin's rig does, but was not as clean looking or permanent (his plans for 1 man cab/bed lift)

Re: How To ?????????

Get a supercharged 454 and a set of slicks. Install both. Remove the bed and then the bolts that hold the cab to the frame. Start the engine, floor the gas and the cab will slide right off the frame right on the ground. Same idea as pulling the tablecloth out from under a set table. While this probably isn't the best way, it is the most exciting.

Hello Stllookn,

I noticed you had a couple comments about getting a new cab if you have rust in you drip rail. Could you take a look at my pictures? I am thinking about having some patch work done or replacing the drip rail, but i know almost nothing about working on trucks.

I am not familiar on how to guide you to the thread I posted but it says" A newb from Los Angeles....I love this forum".

Here is the link to what you are talking about: Click Me!

If I didnīt have the lift to get the cab off I would have went with the one with the engine lift. Somebody also said it is lighter without all the junk, I didnīt see any Junk in mine, itīs all worth the same as gold.

Somebody said there are 6 Bolts holding the Cab to the frame, I only had 4. The trickiest part was getting the Steering column out and back into the steering box. The rest is just wires an cables.....and the screws holding the fenders and cowel on.

Have fun doing it.
