Re: My new '70 K10 - $ for body work? PICS!
If you do all the grunt work (disassembly) it will be much cheaper. I did kick panels, partial floor, rockers cab corners and some pillar work for $1000. The guy delivered the truck and patch panels. It had the doors and front clip held on by two bolts each. I finished it with DP90, aligned the doors and front clip when I was done to make sure it was a good fit.
There are some craftsmen around that will work parttime/evenings in your shop too. You just have to look around and check out their work.

Re: My new '70 K10 - $ for body work? PICS!
Just got a reply from the body shop. Looks like they are saying around $7k to $8k at least, depending on what is under the bubbling paint. That is about what I figured. They seem like a really great body shop though and from our emails back and forth, they have been extremely helpful and excited to work on it. They charge $60 an hour and they said that $1500 is about what it costs for supplies to paint.
I'm pretty sure at this point that I am just going to get it done and over with. Thankfully I am just starting a new full time job Monday after next and the timing (and pay ) couldn't be better. Like they say, time = money, and I don't have a lot of time! It also sucks because it seems like everything having to do with the body just snowballs. Once I get the floor replaced, for example, I may as well get the interior (seat, carpet, etc.) replaced. And I may as well get a new radio, etc. for it if I am going to need to cut panels to install speakers... Man... I just know from the outside everyone reading this thinks I'm super foolish, but I haven't made any moves yet, just brainstorming. |

No it's never foolish to drop the money on something you know will turn out right. Alot better sometimes than trying yourself and screwing it up and costing more. For some of us that price is high because we can do alot if not all of the work ourselves. I'm painting my truck with something similar to POR15 but for exterior lol. it won't look like a $3000 paint job but will look good and withstand anything the Minnesota winter can throw at it.

I don't think it is foolish to get the paint job done right the first time. It costs extra, but it will be worth it in the long run. I had my 71 swb done in 1991 and it still looks great today (17 years ). It was taken completely apart and took about 6 months. It costs a bunch -- get it done right!
