Re: how to disassemble?
Remove the front bumper first. Then unbolt the grille shell from the sides and in the middle where it bolts to the hood latch. That's what I did in my 70 truck, and no damage at all.

Re: how to disassemble?
i didnt take off my front bumper, but if you are concerned about scratching it then it would be a good idea. once i unbolted it i tilted the top down and forward and the lifted out. there are 4 bolts on each side that connet the grille to the fender, 2 on top and 2 on bottom, (i think use a 1/2 socket)these arent super easy to get off. then what i do is take the 4 bolts off for the hood latch assembly and remove it, then i believe there is one more bolt that holds the vertical brace to the core support (the bottom center of the grille area), i remember taking off the headlight trim bezels. and i think i left the headlights in place. if you want to remove the inner grille from the outer grille there are a bunch of like 1/4 in hex head screws that hold the inner to the outer, and two bolts or screws that hold the inner to the vertical brace, becareful handling the inner if it is original, they break easily
