fuel gauge

i just bought a 72 burban. the gas guage is stuck at 3oclock postion. can anybody tell me what that means and how to fix it? thanks

There is so much info on this subject in old posts use the search option, you will have some reading to do but you will definately find the answer. It can be one of a combination of things but the first thing you could check is the Tan wire that runs from the sender to the fuse box, is it making good connection at the tank follow it round by the drivers door and up to the fuse box and check the connection there also.

3 o clock means infinite resistance( open circuit) The tan wire is most likely broken or shorted out between the sending unit and the cluster harness.
