Didn't burn down my house or truck...

tonight i got the drivers side door popper installed and functional. first i hardwired it, then i was able to get the remote working.

here's a video of it in action: http://www.youtube.com/v/DgwJOAUwUS4

I looked at your build thread and it didn't seem to show how you hooked them up to work. I mostly just saw holes drilled in your door, etc. Do you have more detailed pics and a writeup of how you made the solenoids and poppers work?

Re: Didn't burn down my house or truck...

for mounting them, it was actually really simple. the article that i was using as a guide showed that you should drill a hole on the latch lever and run the cable through it. Not sure what kind of steel that is, but i couldn't drill it. I even took it to an auto shop near by and they couldn't either... not even a scratch.

so, i welded a bolt on to it and called it good.

the solenoid is then mounted directly below the latch at the bottom of the door. This way the solenoid pulls straight down and the door pops open.

I did get both doors done yesterday, and got all of the wiring tucked up under the dash. The only thing left is to run a ground wire from the door to the cab so that it will stop sparking when i pop the doors.

You make it sound very simple and straightforward. I'll be having to do this very soon, but haven't taken a close look and don't have components yet. Got any recommendations? What article did you use as a guide?

Re: Didn't burn down my house or truck...

it was the december 2007 of custom classic trucks i believe. Now that i'm done with it, i could send it to you if you need. It was really helpful regarding the mods needed on the latch, and the mounting location for the solenoid.

It didn't go into any details on the wiring at all, but the diagrams with the kit were really good. I have the kit number at home, and will post it here later tonight.

all in all, it was pretty simple. if i had to do it again, i'm sure i could get it done in a day.
