Freeze 12 question

HAve any of you guys used this , and if so, where did you get it? The queefers at O'Reilly's and A-Zone don't carry it because of the propane content -- Its a propane based R-12 substitute , --- my compressor works well, seemingly, but i dont have any cold air, and i am not emotionally prepared to do an R-134a conversion if its something that takes a while (which means i have a pretty stiff schedule this month and can't jack with a long, drawn out , conversion project )

If its not a big deal and i can do the conversion in a couple of hours, i can swing that though _ None of my old trucks have ever had AC except my new "beater truck", so its not something i've ever jacked with

I've seen lab work done up on freze12 and it is something like 98% R134A. Just part of the exadurated dramatization that DuPont started when they instantly lost a BUNCH of R12 buisness overnight.

i have used the 134-A direct into a vaced out working R-12 with no retro fit and no problems. also coverted a R-12 to red tec (r-12 replacement propane content) no problems and no retro fit just dumped in and a way it went (in a 1990 chev 1/2 ton). this has 6 year and still working just fine.did a red tec job on a leaking old R-12 with the stop leak and it lasted the season. the converson is olny as good as the A/C system was or is at the time you do the retrofit. i just pushed the valve in with a screw driver and let the old crap out and put the 134a in, pretty sure thats illegal or something... lol, but it worked for me!

how long has that lasted for ya? sounds like ac systems are not as sensitive as i was led to believe

I didn't even let the R-12 out. I just bought a cheap dispenser that punches a hole in the side of the can and shot the 134 right in. Mine has a slow leak and I have to add a can or two every summer. I've been doing it for about 3 years. (nice and cold)!

I bought Freeze12 at my NAPA store. It worked as good as the system would let it.....I had a small leak that meant I had to add more every few months.

But it cooled my butt on hot days, so I say it's a go. No valves to change and entirely up to you to make it happen.

I used it on my car and it worked OK until (after a trip through the desert) it blew the seal that is in the compressor body (not the shaft seal).I did some research and you are SUPPOSED to add a high-side relief valve when converting to Freeze-12.
I bough out all 12 cans that Pep Boys had in the back.They don't stock it anymore.

the A/C is not as sensitive as people think... like I said, Du Pont lost a LOT of buisness overnight and created a panic. We dump 134A into R12 units on a regular basis at work.
There 4 outcomes here
Do nothing.... your a/c just doesn't work
put 134a in it, and it works great
put 134a and something goes wrong.... well, the A/C was dead before anyways
spend $1200 for aftermarket air.

Retrofitting consists of screwing on two new quick-connect ports over the existing R-12 ports. Then evacuate, and recharge and you are good to go. (Assuming everything worked prior to this) I think flushing the sytem prior to this will produce optimum results, but I have also converted without flushing, and it still worked very well.

the roumors of needing to charge more often are true however, the 134A gas does weap through the R12 hoses. I forgot to mention that.
I hope to get my front and rear A/C working this summer on the burb. It's pretty much all there and the compressor spins, so we'll be giving it a shot.

thx 4 the input guys --- hopefully i'll be rollin cold tomorrow (it got up to 85 here today -- which is still comfortable 2-60 territory, but any hotter and ac would be nice
