HD wheels

I want to put a set of the newer HD wheels on my 72 Longhorn. I tried to do a search but didn't find anything. Does anyone have pictures or info about putting these newer rims on the 67-72 trucks?

Re: HD wheels

Some like them, some don't The back spacing is way wrong and they look funny tucked into the fenderwells too far.

Re: HD wheels

I have a set of Duramax 8 lug wheels on my truck, they bolt right up no problem. The lug nuts are metric so they dont work on the 72. The caps to the wheels wont thread on without those lug nuts.

Re: HD wheels

^What`s that all about?^
Since that has nothing to do with this thread and no text to explain,I`ll give my token "EW!!"Those two nce trucks could be saved with a simple tire/wheel swap.

Anyway, there are SAE duplex lugs made to install late model center caps.

Re: HD wheels

I like them myself. I don't think the backspacing is that far off, yes they are back in the wheel wells an extra inch or so but I don't think it looks bad. I think I am going to try them on my truck. You need to buy different lug nuts with the correct threads and the hub caps need tto either be spaced out or the centers cut out to fit over the hub but it's not that big a deal. some guys are using the regular lug nuts then screwing on the new double thread nuts to space the cap out farther so it covers the hub.
one pic I know of is at classicheartbeat.com go to the trucks for sale tab and find the "garden truck"

Re: HD wheels

Thanks for the replies and the link to the picture Ace in the hole.
Does anyone have any more pictures or links to pictures of these trucks with the HD wheels. Any pictures that help to show the back spacing problem would be great.

Re: HD wheels

Those are the ones I'm talking about Dave. Thanks for posting the pic. So you had no problem getting the cap to fit over the hub? So far I've heard that they bolt right on and others say that you have to either use your original lug nuts behind the cap or alter the caps so that they fit over the hub. Is this a difference in the 67-68 and the 69-72?

I asked wes that and he said he got his from http://www.wheelcomponents.com/
but I think almost any tire place like discount tire should be able to get them for you.

Re: HD wheels

I got the Standard lug nuts off Ebay. There were several guys selling them, I guess it is a pretty popular conversion. I have an Eaton 3/4 ton rear end and the caps fit over just fine. If it was my 71' GMC with the Dana, they would not fit. So, there is a differance. Lots of guys selling these wheels locally with a wide price range. Got mine with tires for $150.

I've stopped by the last 2 years and said hello. This year I will be selling with a buddy of mine that has a bunch of El Camino parts. I'll see you there!
