Re: fillers for the wheels for my panel

Wow, that looks like a lot of work!!!!

Hope you can chuck it up in a lathe and turn down the welds when you're done rather than having to grind all of those.

Re: fillers for the wheels for my panel

I like that idea. I'll have to look into that.

I'm sure once done someone will be making smooth 20's and I could have just bought them instead. That's how my luck is.

I don't know if you will be able to get those balanced after all that welding.

I'm really anxious to see how this turns out. I love it when people use their ingenuity to make something look trick while still being "on the cheap". I see those wheels all the time, and never gave them a passing glance until now.

Re: fillers for the wheels for my panel

Yea, I can’t really afford to buy wheels that are over 2k then put tires on them. Just not in my priorities, plus those smooth billets just are not the look I’m wanting. Even if they were painted. I want a stock look with the cheap painted caps. My time is cheap and if it doesn’t work out I’m not out too much.

Re: fillers for the wheels for my panel

looks like lots of work. First one looks like it is turning out great. Are you going to mount it up and get it balanced before going through all that on all of them?

Re: fillers for the wheels for my panel

I'm only planning on doing one to make sure it works then start on the others or purchase another wheel. We'll see what happens.

Re: fillers for the wheels for my panel

since these plugs aren't structural, and your painting them you might concider less welding. the more you weld the more you grind and the more chance of having a wheel that need lots of lead to balance. Don't forget those thick welds could warp your rim due to excessive heat...i'm no expert welder, so feel free to correct me.

Re: fillers for the wheels for my panel

Well I have no idea what i'm doing so this wheel could be trashed. When i'm done with it i'm taking it to a friends tire shop to see where i'm at. If it's trashed i'll get another.

Re: fillers for the wheels for my panel

I'm also curious to see how you'll dress it up when you're done grinding. Maybe you could spread a thin layer of bondo on it and put it in your buddy's spin balancer and hold sandpaper as it's going around to get it smooth....
