5 on 5 to 5 on 4 3/4
Anybody ever convert their '72 Chevy pickup from 5 on 5 bolt pattern to 5 on 4 3/4? The back is easy. What did you do to convert the front discs?
I want to run Weld Pro Star type wheels and can't find 5 on 5. |

OK, find a 71-72 or 73-74 Chevy Van... get the complete spindle, rotor, caliper assy. They are the same upper/lower ball joint as well as same outer tie rod end, but they are 5 on 4-3/4 bolt pattern... the 71-72 van are the same components as 71-72 chevy trucks, and the 73-74 chevy van are the same components as 73- later chevy pickups... 75-later chevy van return to 5 on 5 bolt pattern.
The Rotor and Caliper are the same as a 70-77 chevy camaro... I was warned once that the smaller camaro rotor/caliper does not have the stopping power needed for a truck. But, My opinion is the GM Factory guys must has thought they would stop a VAN and everything you could throw in one.

I had a guy re-drill my rotors to the smaller pattern,He had to machine some material off the backside,but they worked well.

Okay,
I did this, then converted back to 5x5. The rear drums can also be had from the front drums of a '56 Bel Air. They are the same part number as the rear drums on the van. I had 6 lug, so I ordered new rear axles from moser and had them drilled for both 5 x 5 and 5 x 4 3/4. I bought a set of rotors from a board member that were drilled for the 5 x 4 3/4 bolt pattern also, as well as retaining the 5 x5 pattern. It was pretty simple, but then plans changed, so I just moved the studs and was back in business with 5 x5.
