Re: what carb?

I'd have a tendency to look at the fuel pressure and the float adjustment before giving up. I'm confident you can make what you have work...my $.02.

lower the float level.

It may just be some trash under the needle valve.

Re: what carb?

in a nut shell...

Take the top off of the carb, hold gently on the needle, and GENTLY press down on the float.

There is a lot more to it then that...but the learning curve is steep. Do it once, and it'll be easy as pie after that.

Study the info in these links:

Re: what carb?

I agree. That carb should work & is the best carb. for that engine. Try this trick. If a piece of dirt got into the needle & seat this will clear it out.
Clamp a vice grip on the rubber fuel line to block the flow of gas. Start the engine & run it till it dies or almost dies. Remove the pliers & restart the engine. If it doesn't work the first time try it again. If it still doesn't work you will have to go into it like the guys said.

Re: what carb?

Talked a bit with him last night in chat - my recommendation was to get an overhaul kit and have a local shop replace the needle/seat and adjust the float.

Re: what carb?

Good advise Bill. He should try my tech tip first. I,ve saved many a carb doing that. Sometimes changing the filter will let a small particle get in the needle & seat. Sometimes these paper filters can give off a little fibre when new.

Re: what carb?

Hey Dave,I've heard it that the reman carbs sit on the self awhile and the seals, gaskets dry out and it takes a couple of tries to get a fairly newer rebuilt carb.

Re: what carb?

About half the rebuilt carbs you get from the part stores aren't any good.
