ball joints
For some reason i am having a tough time finding ball joints for my 1969 k/10.
At the local stores the guys are idiots and online i just can't seem to find any. If anyone can give me a good site or some help i would greatly appreciate it. Thank you. |

Re: ball joints
I did a search at http://www.rockauto.com and also Advance Auto http://www.advanceautoparts.com/ found that the K-10 and the C-10 are the same part numbers. However advance only lists the upper ball joint for the K-10. But check the part number and if you go back to Rock Auto link punch in all the info except use C-10....you will find the same part number for your K-10 listed at Advance Auto is listed for the C-10 at Rock Auto. So I am assuming the lower ball joint from a C-10 will work for you.

Re: ball joints
Check the part numbers as I did....it sure appears that they are the same...at least for the upper ones. I can't find the lower ones listed . You could remove your lower ball joint run a caliper on it ..go down to the local parts house ask for a C-10 and measure it.
Here is the upper ball joint part # listed at Advance for a K-10 Part Number: K6024 Its listed at Rock Auto for a 69 C-10.

Re: ball joints
Are there ball joints on a closed knuckle 4X?? I know it may be a dumb question, but I think 69 was a drum brake closed knuckle front end and I don't knoe if they had a conventional ball joint??

Re: ball joints
I had to check myself cause I wasn't sure, but YA, there aren't ball joints in a closed knuckle dana 44 front axle, so if your axle is the OE from 69, you don't have any!! Here is a quote from a site I googled!!
This page will be about the closed knuckle 44. The Dana 44 closed knuckle is known to be weaker than the open knuckle one. This is probably why they stopped using it in the early 70's. The differences between it and the open knuckle are very easy to spot. First off the knuckles are really different. These are the drivers and passenger side knuckles from the top side. These knuckles do not use ball joints like newer 44's. The driver side has a bronze bushing in the top end and a cone bearing in the bottom. These are shimmed for tightness. The passenger side is the same but with 2 bearings and no bronze bushing. The 4 blots on the top of the passenger side knuckle are what is holding the bearing in place. You will find the same thing on the bottom. The drivers side 4 bolts hold on the steering arm that holds the bushing in place. |

Re: ball joints
if it still has a closed knuckle axle, it doesn't have ball joints. it looks more like a small version of the "kingpin" style of the dana 60. why not swap out the whole axle for a disc brake differential. any axle from 71-87 will bolt in (71-91 on blazer and suburban). just match your gear ratio and a little bit of brake system mods and you are good to go. i have a 10 bolt from an 80s blazer with 3:08s that i'll give you free if you want to swap it in. back when i had my 69 K/10 the first thing i swapped was the front axle, 2nd was installing a 205 in place of the rockwell.
by the way,C series and K series DO NOT use the same ball joints.
