Spare tire ideas

Hey all! New here, been diggin' around for a few weeks and found some really great info. I just bought an 85 c10 recently mostly cause it sounded like fun (but also cause it has a running a/c).

Okay, so down to business...

I'm looking for something better for my spare tire aside from having it just laying free in the bed. I've seen a bit about this glide out system, but what about an inner side bed mount? Any suggestions?

I once lost a nice spare due to my use of a bit of flat steel trying to clamp the spare in the stock location. I've also lost them from the bed with other solutions. Bungies don't work either (I've lost a few 3/4 ton spare tires (it gets expensive)).

Today, I think I'd find a setup to bolt it behind the driver side of the cab in the bed. Safari style... This doesn't make a blind spot.

I used to order the "inside the bed" mount with each truck back in the day. I got along with it ok. Times that I needed the bed space I made a front carrier for the spare. It worked well also.

Re: Hey!

Welcome from Western Colorado. I was thinking about making a rear mount that swings out of the way like a Jeep.

Re: Hey!

There's a stock assembly to put it under the bed, just like the newer trucks.

That'd be great! Just trying to get an idea of what it looks like and if theres any permanent alterations to the body/shell that would have to take place.

Re: Hey!

welcome from australia

i bolted a bracket to my tray with a ring, then threaded a length of chain through wheel and ring and put a good padlock on it, never lost a spare.

Re: Hey!

Welcome, from central Indiana! Who needs a spare tire? Just limp along the shoulder on the rim till ya get home. That's what rednecks like me do.

Re: Hey!

Came on my 77 when i bought it, and had an old indented letter firestone, so i figure it was there for a while.

Re: Hey!

Thanks guys! I took a look @ my bed and thought that maybe the previous owner might have had one in and taken it out cause there are holes drilled to the front of the driver side wheel well on the lip of the bed and at the base of the bed but they don't look like they fit the diagram or Walt's pictures...

Taking a closer look, there are 3 holes drilled...

...and here, there are 2 holes in the bed itself, neither of which look as though they line up with the side mount.

Theres no telling what these were used for but no big.

Where can I find the actual bracket? I see LMC sells the hardware but no bracket?

Re: Hey!

I do not have a spare and just hope I do not have a flat. But I do have a cell phone. That works for me. Welcome to the board.
