A couple questions
First.. I was wrong about the trans in my truck.. it's a 700. I don't know how they got the lockup to work because I don't see any wires. What I'd like to know is where I can get the correct throttle cable bracket to work with my QJet. The truck is shifting way too fast out of first.
Second, what kind of rear gears usually came in a 250 straight six with an automatic? |

Re: A couple questions
OK, let's back up. Truck is an 81 with a 355 and a Qjet and a 700R4 4-speed auto, right (no vacuum modulator on trans)? And your problem is the trans shifts 1-2 too early?
Why do you think the bracket is wrong? Badically any SBC truck bracket 83-86 would work. But did you try adjusting the cable? Push in the retainer until you can push the cable end back into the sheath. Release the retainer. Now open the throttle fully at the carb (not at the pedal). The cable should ratchet out. This is the way the factory set them. Shortening the cable will increase line pressure and delay all the shifts slightly. If your TCC is working then there must be a wire to it. Period. It can be wired to apply in 4th gear by using a pressure switch inside th trans. Remember, 4th gear is not TCC. You should be shifting into 4th around 45-50 on light throttle, then the TCC should apply and drop 3-400 rpm. Gears were most likely 3.08 or 3.23. Look to see if the parts sticker is still inside the glove box door.

Re: A couple questions
Try adjusting the cable like D13 said, if that doesn't work I would stop driving until the problem is fixed because the 700 is easily burned up without correct line pressure. If you can't adjust the cable correctly, you can get the right brackets from www.bowtieoverdrives.com.
The TCC wires come from a 4-pin connector on the driver's side, if it's missing then you're not hooked up. If it's there, check where it goes and check to see that you're getting 12v.

Re: A couple questions
I adjusted the cable and it shifts hard and at the right time.. thank god. No lockup, though. Is there a way to get it to lock up without going into the trans?

Re: A couple questions
Welp, looks like the trans was on it's way out when they parked the truck.. No 3rd gear now. I think I'm just going to go back to a TH350. Anyone got a ballpark price on what a good used TH350 would cost?
