Buying a 454 out of a 79 Suburban with Low miles, any clue on horsepower?

Just curious on HP and TQ this engine may make stock. Trying to get a good baseline. Any idea where I can find this info?

factory service manual or manuals like motors or chiltons will give you an idea

my best guess would be around 230hp and maybe 350torque

Found it finally! 245hp @ 4000 380tq @ 2500 with 7.6-1 Comp. Ratio

i looked for it too, i'm surprised it made that in the height of smog and low compression. should be fairly easy to bump that up though.

My book says (old 1979 MOTOR'S manual) 210 HP and 340 TQ. This pic says the same thing. Cdowns is was closer than you thought!

I just looked at that ad again, and it confirms that also. It has 205 HP and 335TQ for the light duty.

the heads on that vintage motor are extremely restricted! pretty much junk but rest of motor is ok.

Yep, the old imfamous peanut heads. They are fine for street but suck a performance head.
