Got rake?

Took a few pics today, after rearranging my two projects in the garage. Keep in mind the bed is just sitting on the frame, and a handful of bolts are holding the front end on.

Combine oversized rear tires, with overcut, old stocker springs - and no front shocks - and you get a very steep rake. I've got 2.5-3" drop spindles on right now and will be installing 1" drop springs which should raise the front about an 1" or so. I hope. It's either that or drop the rear more! Blocks?

I'm not digging it at the moment. The funky white/red offset lines around the window don't help the look either. Hopefully raising the front will help, but the back still seems way high, even with 5" drop springs. I guess if the front didn't have a 5" drop or so, it wouldn't be so bad...

Wheel/tire combo is 22x9.5 +12 offset/285-35R22's, and 20x8.5 +10 offset/245-40R20's. Had to trim the rear fenderwells a little to clear the tires. I may sell these wheels/tires and start over. I don't know - I guess I'll see how it all goes together once its satin black.

Re: Got rake?

I actually like the stance you have right now although I think going to more moderate wheel choice does make sense. Looks like any weight in the bed at all would cause the tires to rub. Here's a similar stance on 17s.

Re: Got rake?

Personaly, I like it. I would do what it take to drop the rear a little more.

Your truck looks sharp !!

Re: Got rake?

Thanks for the comments.

I'm going to see how it looks once I have the new front springs on - and go from there. I'm leaning towards dropping the rear more. An adjustable P-bar will help center the rear and give the tires/fenders more clearance - and will be a must anyway with it that low. It has more room on the driver side right now.

The wheels will pop much better with the truck all murdered out black! As will a nice chrome grille - or sanded down to metal - and clearcoated - grille and bumper.

I'm just ready to drive the thing!

You've got a sweet truck there! I like the TTII's on it - and since we've(Wheel Pros) have merged with ARE I should be able to get them pretty reasonable. I'll be looking at Weld's too.

Anybody interested in some brand new KMC SS's - 22's and 20's with Nitto 555's on them - never driven on!

29.9 and 27.7 - so a little over 2"

Good question.. I've dropped a 5.3/4l60e in it, and I've got some harness(did not come with one or an ecm), computer, and wiring work to do. Oh yeah fuel system, headers, exhaust system, shocks, shifter, custom DS, rear brake work - and e-brake work, body, paint, etc, etc.... Just a lot of time and about $1500-$2000 in parts or so.

Maybe a month or so before I can start it and hear it run. Maybe sooner, we'll see.

Re: Got rake?

I think it looks pretty good.........I would agree w/ some of the other comments. Leave the front if it is functional and drop the rear a little more to even it out. I have found thru some of my other trucks that that much rake can be a little bouncy in the front. If you are that low you do NOT want to bounce on the road......it'll really make you grit your teeth!!!!!

Re: Got rake?

Lane, if you want another opinion, here's mine.... Go with the 1" higher springs in the front, AND drop your rear wheel size down to 20". This would give you a 2" total change, which might make the difference you're looking for. Plus, I think it would still lead to your nice look where the top of the rim is just under the fender.

that's one sick stepper Lane... and I agree w/ the others, down with the rear a little would be perfect.

Re: Got rake?

I looked at it again today and the rear wheels have too low of offset. I may be able to get them machined at KMC/Alba to tuck them more - which I'll find out tomorrow. Got a good 1" on the inside. The 'swing' of the trailing arms is going to push the back tires into the back part of the fender when the suspension comes down. To clear right now I would have to narrow the rear or move the trailing arms/crossmember/rear all forward. It would center the wheel and look alot better but man - lots of work...

If not - greg is probably right in going with 20's out back. 1" narrower wheel, lower tires. However, we(Wheel Pros) may not have any 20's left.. I was lucky in grabbing this set up right as they were discontinued and blown out.
