71 4x4 original wheels

My wife wants to see what the original wheels and tires looked like on her 71 short step 4x4. Does anyone have any pictures I could show her? I don't know what it came with from the factory.

I searched for original wheels, but didn't find what I was looking for.

I would like to see some 31/10.50-15 all terrains on there, but she wants a stock look. The truck is close to all stock, so this is probably the best way to go value wise. Any suggestions on where to get some wheels and which tires to use would be appreciated.

Re: 71 4x4 original wheels

The widest stock rims offered were 8.25 inch. They will look great with a set of 31x10.5x15's. Several board members are running them and hopefully they will post some pics of them soon. Here's a bump for you.

Re: 71 4x4 original wheels

Thanks stllookn. I agree they would look great. BUT... the wifey wants a stock look, so I have to find out what that was and show it to her to see if she really wants it that way or not. I showed here some 31" all terrains, and she thought they were two "huge". WOMEN!!!!

Re: 71 4x4 original wheels

Here is a pretty good thread from awhile back.

http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=130727

It has quite a few pics of stock style wheels. This is a pic of my

71 K20 with 16.5 x 8.25 33x12.16.5 and 33x12.5 16.5 tires.

Here is what mine came with, although the stepside caps were probably painted, not chrome. Don't quote me on that as I don't know exactly what your truck came with.

Re: 71 4x4 original wheels

the widest factory option wheels in 15 inch was 8 inches wide, but a 16.5 rim was available in 8.25 inches. 6 lug versions of the 16.5 wheels are not very common.

Im not usually a fan of the black wheels on 4x4's, I even changed mine from black to white...but that looks pretty darn good. Nice truck.

Re: 71 4x4 original wheels

You guys have busted me--I completely forgot that when it was time for new tires, those are 235/85's mounted on an extra set of 16" wheels with the original caps. I still have my 16.5 wheels, but tire sizes are so limited. Sorry about that!!! Those 16" wheels on it are only approx 7" wide, for comparison's sake.

Re: 71 4x4 original wheels

Just thought I'd upgrade my previous post now that I've painted them back to the stock white--maybe this will help someone searching this thread for another example of the "stock" look:

Not exactly what you're asking for but I guess it's a good reference for the size difference maybe??

Re: 71 4x4 original wheels

Don't mean to hijack but I have 6-lug 16.5 X 8.25 steelies that attach the hub cap with a clip, not the nubs! Anyone got a pic of that stock hub cap? I am trying to locate some for my 4 X 4 blazer....

The Blazer never would have come with that hub cap. It`s last year was 68,when they made the same cap in both inner "clip" and outer "nub" type.
