Fuel filter getting too hot??

Hey guys...got a question for you. I want to know if the metal fuel filter is located just off the carb on top of the intake, would it be possible for it to get too hot and cause the fuel to bubble and allow air to get in the line and cause sputtering?

It only does it when REALLY hot out side and after about 20 miles? EVERYTHING electrical and distrib. and plugs/wires has been replaced including the rotor, cap and bug and the ignition module. SO they are ruled out.

Also new is the filter itself and the electric fuel pump.

What is your opinion on this?? Should the filter be relocated to where it is not so hot and can get some air flow to it?

Re: Fuel filter getting too hot??

ive never had a problem with an inline filter located there but if your filter touches the intake it could be possible.. if its in midair and there is some air space around it id doubt it.... your fuel line couldnt be touching anywhere near the exhaust could it?

Re: Fuel filter getting too hot??

There are many things that you might consider on your vapor binding on your engine.

YES the metal filter could be some of your problem. Anything metal will soak up heat like it has no tomorrow and especially with cooler fuel passing through (The old transfer of heat from a area of higher temps to an area of lower temps). Another thing, what do you have for an original fuel pump? When you replaced it, did you go to a pump and a pressure regulator WITHOUT the recirc line back to the tank (that is if you had a recirc line in the first place)? I did this on my last engine build and was getting some serious fuel percolating issues and vapor binding. As soon as I put a different bottom plate on my High Dollar Edelbrock fuel pump and reconnected my recirc line, I got away from most of the fuel vapor binding. The recirc allows cool fuel to be fed to the pump and is available to the carb at all times. I still have a metal fuel filter and need to find a glass one again to limit that heat issue in that area.
