Help with 67-68 GMC front Grille/Hood
I'm having very rough time getting my front clip to line up on my 68 GMC. Most of the problem is where the bottom of the hood meets the grille top bar and then where that top bar meets the grill. I have attached some pics to try to portray what the issue is, but I'll try to explain it too. The orange line I drew is a great exaggeration of what the problem is.
I have tried two hoods, and have had the same issue. It appears that the bottom lip of the hood (where it meets that bar) is curved upwards on each side of the center. At each corner of the hood, everything is good, but as you work your way in from each corner towards the center of the hood, they each curve up and then come back down in the center, so I have gaps between the hood and the grille bar. Is the bottom of the hood supposed to be flat all the way across? I would think so, but what are the chances of having two hoods with this same issue? What are my options? Try to bend the hood to be straight there? Weld metal to the hood to make a straight bottom? Try yet another hood?

Re: Help with 67-68 GMC front panel alignment
Maybe its just me but looking at the pic it seems like the top bar may be the problem. It might be the pic but these pieces are easy to get out of adjustment

Re: Help with 67-68 GMC front panel alignment
I can manipulate the top bar to mold to the hood, but then the top bar is curved against the flat top of the grille.

Re: Help with 67-68 GMC front panel alignment
Man I wish you were closer I have a spare top bar laying aroud that may be worth a try. A few more dumb questions. Is that a repop grill and have you tried mating the topbar and getting the kinks out on the grill first then adjusted when installing the grill as one piece. Sorry not the ultamate expert here just trying to come up with some ideas

Re: Help with 67-68 GMC front panel alignment
Trust me, I'll take all the help I can get right now. I have tried two grilles as well, one new one (the chrome one) and one good used one. It seems to me, from what I can tell, is that the grill top, and the top bar are supposed to be flat on the top, meaning the bottom of the hood, where they meet, should be flat as well, and not concave. I think I am going to try and weld some filler bar on the bottom of the hood. It will help with the flatness, as well as close the gap I have. I have plenty of hoods, so I won't be screwed if I mess it up. Is that top bar for sale??
