My new 72
Hello, First post after I finally got a truck. Have been looking for 3 years, but never came across a good deal until this week when I got my 72 ½ ton long bed.
I posted an ad on craiglist saying I was looking for a truck and had and older gentlemen contact me saying he had one he might sell. Comes to be that he bought it new 72, and it has spent its entire life in North Carolina. I didn’t hear back for a few months, but he emailed me Sunday saying he was ready to sell. I went to look at the truck and the only rust is on the rockers, and one cab corner has a ¼ inch hole. The rest of the truck is in great shape expect for the trans that needs to be rebuilt. He wanted $750 and I thought that was a great price, so I bought it and brought it home. The really neat part is he still had the original invoice from when he bought it, his finance sheet (with the salesman business card stapled on, warranty card and book, all the manuals, built sheet from GM, and even the sales brochure from when he was looking for trucks in 72. I also got all the receipts for any work that was done, and he even had all the state inspection sheets for each year they gave those out. I thought it was a great find and can’t wait to start working on it. I have posted some pics (most before I washed the whole truck down). It looks 80 percent better after I got all the surface gunk off. One of the pics is the hood and how well one side cleaned up. |

Re: My new 72
Heck of a buy for 750 clams. I'd give it the old Comet bath and then drive the wheels off of it.

Re: My new 72
Wow.
First to a great find. I really do think the history of a car or truck is really worth a whole lot if you can verify it. Buying a 72 truck from the original owner in the year of 2008, that is'nt happening every day.

Re: My new 72
Thanks, I hope to fix the little rust spots that it has and then paint it blue. I want to use it more as a driver, but still having something I can continue to fix up. I ripped out the interior today, and the floors look very solid. I also dug out the caulking in the drip rails to check for any rust and they looked almost new, so I was happy to find that.
