69 c10 aircleaner
I sandblasted and primed an aircleaner today. I had some left over dupont selfetching primer. I will spray it flat black tomorrow. I have some questions about 69 aircleaner set up. Was spacer painted or coated from the factory? I need to see some pics of the aircleaner on the engine. I am trying to get engine compartment looking close to stock.

Re: 69 c10 aircleaner
I'm pretty sure they were a silver color. The ones I have are not black.

Re: 69 c10 aircleaner
the spacer was a natural finish and neither coated or painted. the cleaner was a 60-70% gloss black. don't forget your "Use ACDelco" decal if your going with the bone stock look!

Re: 69 c10 aircleaner
Also, talking about air cleaners, what are the things on the intake "tube"? The big plastic thing. Whats the little "tube/hose" on the side?
Talking about a 350 in my case.

Re: 69 c10 aircleaner
I agree. There is no flat black used anywhere. It goes from low gloss chassis paint to semi-gloss on p/s box,air cleaner,pulleys...

Re: 69 c10 aircleaner
The "pipe" on the snout had a connection to a device designed to pre-heat the incoming air charge in cold weather. If I remember right, there was a flap that was supposed to allow the introduction of warmed air to the air cleaner. That system was part of what was new for '67 production. GM called it a "Thermactor" as I recall, on Oldsmobiles. I had a friend whose dad sold cars for an Olds dealer in Little Rock. He called his son to tell him about a new 4-4-2 that had "some kind of air thing" on it. So, Jimmy went down to look at it, thinking it was just the Thermactor device. He had a hot little '66 4-4-2, so he had to look. Turns out this '67 was a Ram-Air W-30....battery in the trunk; red plastic front inner fenders; 4.56 rear gears; etc. Yep, he bought it. Traded in his "old" '66.
With 3K miles on the clock, while driving on I-30, the engine scattered. Don't know how fast it was going, but it would pull some R's. Nice Pontiac installation.....us old Pontiyakker's are always happy to see that silvery blue.

Re: 69 c10 aircleaner
you gotta love the way they did the oil filters on those old pontiac engines huh?
Flat black won't look right, you need a semi gloss on there. I found a spray bomb that is pretty close, just a little too flat, if interested I'll see if I can dig up the can and get you the correct info. |

Re: 69 c10 aircleaner
Yeah, part number will be cool. I installed a spacer on a spare carb. Does this look right? Breather goes in the right valve cover? I still need to clean in.

Re: 69 c10 aircleaner
I wouldn't paint it orange... it's not a chevy engine. I hear that all the time on my caddy engine... it's not a chevy, so it isn't orange.

Do you mean the angled oil filter adapter? That's what should be on his 400. Now the 301's had a straight out horizontal oil filter adapter. Of course they were a different animal all the way around; lightened crank with only 3 counterweights, tiny siamesed intake runner (feeding 2 cylinders), oddball intake, different deck height, shorter rods. 301's were the bastard child of the pontiac V8 lineup!

Re: 69 c10 aircleaner
James,
I am doing another motor for it right now. Heads will be back from the shop next week. On the outside it will be all stock. I might even get some passes this year. |

Very nice! That looks like an earlier model 400 head. What casting # is it?
