That does look awesome. Can't wait to see some more progress.

It looks like the frame was made for these years.

Re: Addicted to Chevrolets ( bought a C30 )

Why lift it?

It looks like the tires clear in the front...

If you need to lift it, do a shackle flip, as you want the weight rating the stock springs support, right?

Having spent a little over 300 per side for my rear springs in my tow rig project, I would stay stock

Re: Addicted to Chevrolets ( bought a C30 )

I seems like I haven't had the time to update this thread in ages. I have been working on the K30 almost every day, and have made some major progress. I bought a RCI 20 gallon aluminum fuel cell, with sending unit. I also picked up a Msd high pressure electric fuel pump, as well as new fittings and hose. I have it mounted between the frame rails in front of the rear axle. I am not sure if I am going to leave it there or not. But for now, at least I can drive the truck around. Next we mounted the flat deck, which came on my 1970 C/30. It is about a foot or two too short for the newer frame, so I will extend it. Other than that it went on easy, it is even the right height when the channel is sitting on the frame.

Re: Addicted to Chevrolets ( bought a C30 )

Next was suspension. I couldn't find any company that made a lift kit for older Chevy 1 ton duallys. In fact, the only company I could find that even made a 1 ton early chevy solid axle lift was Super Lift. I couldn't find much information on using a srw lift on a dually, so my local dealer contacted Super Lift. The only thing that won't work for a dually was there supplied rear u bolts, since duallys have a larger spring pack. So I went with there srw kit, it came with new front lift springs, with 6 leaves! New shocks all the way around, new u bolts, steering block, bushings, and rear blocks. I didn't want to go with blocks, but I don't think I will have to worry about axle wrap with 15 springs on each side. I can always install a shackle flip later on, if I don't like the blocks. The lift went on fairly easy, except for rusted solid rear u bolts, which we had to cut off. I really like how it looks with the lift, and will give me more ground clearance which I wanted.

Haha thanks man. I don't have any plans for the old frame. It is just sitting out back. I haven't decided what color to paint it yet, just working on the body work. So I am open to opinions for paint color!

Re: Addicted to Chevrolets ( bought a C30 )

Pretty much done all the rust repair. I bought a little Lincoln Electric 180C mig and went to work. This was my first time doing any type of welding or bodywork. So considering it is a work truck, I am fairly happy with how it turned out. Cab needed all 4 cab supports, left and right front cab floor, left and right rear cab floor, cab corners, inner rockers and outer rockers.

Re: Addicted to Chevrolets ( bought a C30 )

Got the floor and dash all sanded down and in primer. Filled the fuel neck hole in the cab, and did a little body filler on the cab corners and where I filled the fuel hole. Still having a hard time deciding what color I am going to paint it, I have gone back and forth so many times already it seems. Joe, your 68 C/30 was the truck that first got me thinking about a one ton. Thats an awesome looking truck you got! I love the black and chrome, which has now swayed me to go for a dark color. I am thinking of painting it the same color as my very first truck. '71 k10 in dark blue. But on this truck I think I would like to paint the roof white, especially since I haven't got a/c. Here are some pictures of the interior in primer, and I'll post a pic of my first truck too.

Next I need to lengthen the flat deck, I am planning on added about 16'' to the front, and angle it in towards the cab. So the very front of the deck will be about the same width as the cab. Hopefully that will work so I don't hook the corners of my flat deck when I'm in the trees. Thirdstreettito, yes I am planning on using the same welder. I think it should be fine, according to the chart on the welder it will be able to handle the thicker metal no problem.

Thanks for the comments!

Re: Addicted to Chevrolets ( bought a C30 )

I remember seeing a picture of a white blazer at some point that they cut the bottoms off the front fenders and built the bumper around the sides. I thought that would be a good option, since my bumper didn't fit really well with the 67-72 fenders. The bumper is made of 1/2'' plate in the bottom, and 3/16'' for everything else. After welding 3/16 plate on the sides I think that is about the limit for my welder, but it turned out good!! Heres the pics.

Re: Addicted to Chevrolets ( bought a C30 )

Thanks for all the good comments!! The truck is really coming along good, I have been working on it almost everyday and have got a ton of stuff done. Since I updated the forum last, I got the entire body sanded down, and primed. It turned out pretty good, but there were some small scratches that I didn't see until I sprayed primer. But considering what I am going to be using this truck for, it isn't a huge deal to me. I also painted the inside of the front fenders, front of the cab, door jams, inside of the doors, roof, and inside of the doors. Then on the floor I sprayed rocker guard all the way up behind the dash, on the kick panels, floor, and the back of the cab on the inside. This turned out looking really good, and it is supposed to help with noise, and also will keep any moisture out. On top of the rocker guard I put sound deadening all the way up the firewall, and on the floor. I cut sections to fit the floor around the high spots, and then did one full section covering the whole floor. I used 3M spray adhesive for the deadening which worked really good! I hope between the rocker guard and sound deadening it should be fairly quiet inside. I found some 2005 Silverado bucket seats with the fold down middle seat for sale locally. Which were really straightforward to mount, and seem like the perfect thing. I still have plenty of headroom. I even had a friend who is 6' 2" try sitting in them, and he didn't have any problems either. I used 3/16 plate to reinforce the underside, since the seats have integrated seat belts. I really like how they fit, and considering I bought them for less than it would have been to get my bench recovered I am really happy!! Here are some pictures!
