removing mc on a 72
Hello,
me and my son have removed the front crossmember off the 72 for the swap into his 67. I have not spent much time but did take a look. Is there any tips /tricks/suggestions of removing the complete mastercylinder/booster from the firewall. I did look under the cab and see a plate and 4 bolts that will need to be removed, and also a bolt with a nut and cotter pin attached to the brake pedal. but it seem that the stud will hit the column. can this be removed without removing the steeering column? should i take the whole pedal assembly to use on the 67 or will it mate up? Thanks..

Re: removing mc on a 72
Four bolts hold the assembly to the firewall and the pedal support on the inside. There is the link from the pedal to the booster. One of the lower bolts also serves to retain the steering column. I pulled the column on my truck this weekend, but left the M/C and booster assy in place.
If you don't yet have an assembly manual, you should consider getting one. The pictures are the resource. There isn't much organization of the info, short of the chronology of the pages. But being able to look at the pictures, after you have also been intimate with the truck, will enable you to better understand how it all goes together....or comes apart. The shop manual will also provide some help. Both of these books are available as reprints....I recommend them.

Re: removing mc on a 72
Once the bolt is loose on the pedal arm you can depress the pedal(It will be easier after the booster/MC is removed) and pull that bolt out.Keep track of which brake rod goes with what since they are different.

Re: removing mc on a 72
Thanks for the replies. I had to remove 2 bolts that held the column up from under the dash to get the bolt out that went through the brake pedal.
success.
