TRUCKS with STACKS; Have you seen them ?
OK guys, I'm an old fart so I've been around a while and seen alot of stuff; back in the 50's, 60's, 70's it was cool to take the Corvette type side pipes and make stacks for your truck. In fact it was so popular that D_dge came out with the Lil'Red Express (see photo) and they had factory OEM STACKS !!!
_ I'm looking for some photos especially of trucks with stacks up through the bed; post what you got magazine photos, old car-show photos etc... thanks ! Last edited by 67Cowboy; 09-07-2008 at 06:20 PM. |

Re: TRUCKS with STACKS; Have you seen them ?
I think that they look stupid as can be on 1/2 ton or 3/4 ton trucks with a regular bed!!!!!! Now on a 1 ton with a FLATBED if they are mounted BETWEEN the BED and CAB and not to the outside of the bed, then it looks pretty darn sharp!!!!!!!!

Re: TRUCKS with STACKS; Have you seen them ?
The white *odge looks like something Hot Wheels would do, except maybe for the bull balls.
Don't know if I can find pics, but stacks are pretty common on grain trucks in these parts. You have a better chance of not setting the wheat stubble on fire that way....

Re: TRUCKS with STACKS; Have you seen them ?
"Stacks" were a Seventies thing. For that matter, so were the side pipes. Yeah, Corvettes could be had with them, so Thrush made some available to the aftermarket. I'm sure there were other brands, but Thrush side pipes were my choice for the '65 C-10 I had in the '70's...mid at that. But, by the time I was able to pick up a used set for $25, they were old hat ('75). What I remember the most about mine was the fact that I had a plug that would foul out (gas) and start popping and sounded like gunfire. When that pop would happen while a car was next to me on the interstate, they thought they'd been shot.

Re: TRUCKS with STACKS; Have you seen them ?
A buddy of mine used to have them on his 84 F*#D 1 ton flatbed, it looked awesome especially at night cause it used to run a little rich and would backfire causing flames to burn at the end of the stacks!!!!

Re: TRUCKS with STACKS; Have you seen them ?
These dual 6"-8" stacks on diesel 4wd pickups are like wearing a cowboy hat and sneakers at the same time.
Very tacky. We have alot of that around here. They were a popular custom touch on hot rod pickeps in the`80s.I wonder if the rail-scavengers will come back next.

Re: TRUCKS with STACKS; Have you seen them ?
theres a local with twin chrome stacks in the bed of his late model furd f-350 GAS, and i saw a 88+ chevy a while back with two black stacks almost 2 feet above the cab with the flap caps. best of all was the 67 vintage single axle C-60 with a old wrecker body and twin chrome stacks, i may have drooled a little...
