I don't think the S10 bellhousing will bolt up because it depends on what engine it was bolted to. a 2.8 v6 is a 60 degree bellhousing whereas a 4.3 is a 90 degree right? The inline 6 share the 90 degree bolt pattern.
I understand the clutch now in that it needs to be the same as the input shaft. Any ideas on throwout bearing and spacing of the trans with respect to the length of the input shaft????

Re: T5 5-SPEED to stock bellhousing - rotation

Strider, read post #9 above and follow the link I provided in that post. I'm not trying to be rude, but I sent you the link once already and you're asking questions that I've already answered, especially in the other link. Get rid of your S-10 trans and just use the Camaro trans-you'll be glad you did.

Oh, btw if Ontario has lot's of hills and mountainous areas like the Pacific NW, I'd keep the 4.10's out back. While the 3.73's are good I'd go 4.10's with a 250 in a 4100lb truck if I were to do it all over again.

I was not aware that you had the 2.8 trans. Yes the bell housings are different. As Brad has posted I would get rid of the S-10 trans as long as you have the funds and just get the camaro trans and bell housing. If you had the 4.3 I would say run it since you are running a 6 cylinder. I purchased my hydraulic throwout bearing from a company out of the back of a hotrod magazine that specailzes in these types of swaps I just told them the application and a measurment from the face of the inputshaft bearing retainer and the preasure plate fingers and it worked. I bought the master cylinder from a local place that sells circle track parts called BSR. As far as trans spacing I didnt have to shim anything the inputshaft fit perfectly into the pilot bushing, just make sure you make all the correct measurments since your app is different than mine.

Re: T5 5-SPEED to stock bellhousing - rotation

I am getting ready to put a 92 Camaro V8 T5 into my Nova. I'm going to use a 11 inch car aluminum Bellhousing. The original bell on my T5 is a 10.5 clutch so I assume the S10's are too. If you plan on using a 67 and earlier truck bellhousing and any year truck flywheel(I think they are 11 inches) you will have to get a clutch disc from an 85 Astro 4.3 because they came with 11 inch clutches that match these splines. I think Camaros and S10 only came with 10.5 clutches.

Here is another link that might give you some good info. He put a T5 in a 50 Chevy P-U.

That may not work because there's a variety of different spline counts on these transmissions, it's just simpler to just get a clutch kit for whatever your transmission came out of. If it came out of an '89 V8 Camaro (like my latest trans) then get the clutch kit for an '89 V8 Camaro. That's what I did. Besides I'm not sure there would be any noticeable difference between the 10.5" clutch and 11" clutch on a truck. I could be wrong on that however.

Re: T5 5-SPEED to stock bellhousing - rotation

just my 2 cents!!

i had a T-5 borg warner behind my 327 sbc and had no problems with fit up

it had a 26 spline, 11" clutch, stock camaro bellhousing, stock truck z-bar,links, and clutch fork it worked great!!

only thing i made was and angle bracket for the 30 degree trans mount and a crossmember!! ( i will try to get some pics of it!!)

i recently sold the motor and looking for th400 automatic and soon hopefully selling the T-5 as a kit which comes with every thing!!

i thought borg warner did make a T-5 that can handle up tp 310 lb/torque!! were they called the world class series?? correct me if im wrong!!!

Yes, the WC tranny's are stronger and have a better bearing system. That's what I have in my truck now. IIRC, '87 & up Camaro trans were WC and the S-10's didn't get it until much later.

Correct me if I'm wrong but a 10.5 clutch bolts to a smaller flywheel (153 tooth) whereas an 11 in clutch bolts to a bigger flywheel (164 tooth). Will the 10.5 clutch physicaly bolt to the bigger flywheel?
I guess you could find a older mechanical (nonhydrolic) 10.5 bellhousing, smaller flywheel, and matching starter to use the stock T-5 clutch with.

My truck has always had a 250 in it. It has the original bellhousing and flywheel still in it. I have nfc what that is w/out counting teeth and I won't be doing that anytime soon. So whatever flywheel came in original L6 trucks is what the 10.4" clutch bolted to. I have a 164 tooth flywheel sitting in my garage that looks identical to the one in my truck so I can safely assume that yes, the 10.4" clutch will bolt to the larger flywheel.

Re: T5 5-SPEED to stock bellhousing - rotation

Does anyone know if the 250 inline 6 is internally balanced?
I have a flywheel from a 292 and was wondering if I could bolt it up with no issues.

Thanks!!!!!!!
