Has anybody used S10 parts on our trucks? - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Hey guys and gals, I have a 94 actually it's a GMC Sonoma. I am going to be stripping and crushing.The body is beat up pretty bad, and I don't have the title for it.
SO! I would like find out if some of the parts would be worth keeping. Like the brake booster and master cylinder. I have heard the seat belts can be converted over.
Have any ideas of what I should keep?? and what not to worry about??
All input would be appreciated.

Never known anyone to use S10 parts on our years. Since they weigh 1/2 as much. Why would you?

Many use them for frame swaps for 1947-55 series 1

from what i understood from a guy i talked to this weekend, the rear end is a keeper if you want to fit some meats under the rear of your truck. he was running some M/T's on 15x15 wheels with 4" b/s and used a s10 rear for it. He was going to have a ford 9" cut down, but when he was measuring it, realized that the s10 he had laying around had the perfect width rear for what he needed.

i cannot speak to the practicality of doing this though. seems to me an s10 rear is not going to be very strong. especially with that amount of rubber on the road.

gas filler neck and door is a good thing to keep. people turn them into hidden fillers behind the marker light. there's a FAQ regarding that.

Quite a few people have used the AOD trannys and the NV3500 that back the 4.3L.

yeah. . . if the trucks a longbed single cab you should post it for sale in the 47+ thread. too bad youre so far away I would take the rear end for my 49 GMC

Rumor has it that the door rubbers from an S10/S15 will fit our trucks. I've never tried this, so I can't confirm and/or refute these claims.

the serpentine system off the front of the motor will sway over...if it is a 4.3

I used an S-10 booster on my '67. Works well but it was a pain to install. Check out my build for details. I have also tried to use the seatbelts and so far I have not been able to make them work. The tank gets in the way on the driver side. If anyone has any new info I would love to check it out. The door rubbers I used were from a '96ish full size Chevy truck. They work awesome, just gotta trim them down a bit as they are too long, but the bends are in the right spot.

Thanks guys, that is what I was talking about. BTW, it is a 4.3l auto. longbed Standard cab. I originally got this truck with intentions on using the frame for the 51 Chevy I acquired. But reality has set in and need to unload some parts and vehicles.

You mentioned the seatbelts, they work great.
Think its a 3/8" bolt you need to put them in the theaded hole in the cab.

Definitely take the above advice and keep the serpentine stuff with all the accessories. Great swap. The gas tank can be made to work as well. Not sure what year, but I know I used one once from an S10.

I use the door rubbers on my trucks & they work pretty good

They are a lil short & they make the doors shut tight, but they work pretty good

The filler neck can be made to fit the blazer tanks....my buddy's panel truck sports one as we speak.

Oh yeah....the front disc/rear drum assembly is the same as what came on El Caminos and Malibus [and no tellin' how many more GM's] as is the rear axle, springs, sway bars etc.

I dont think there is a FAQ on the S/10 door rubber subject

Its really simple though, just pull off your old rubber, pinch the S/10 rubber together & press it on

I beleive the bolt for the seat belt at the shoulder is a 7/16" with 28 tpi (fine thread). I have installed them in my 69 and they are fine. They are a little short, so if you have a big belly they might not be for you.....

I'm a Big Boy, but I had heard that you can go to a Gm dealer,and the will give you belt extenders if you need. I pretty sure there free also. But I'm not 100% sure on that one.
