Re: who makes the tailight gas door???
as far as i know, no one makes one. you'll have to build it yourself.

There is a pretty good thread on the side marker fill in the FAQ forum. Scroll down to the bottom of this page and you will see the "Forum Jump" box. Click on the little down arrow on the right side of the box and scroll down to "FAQ Truck Tech". On that page go down to "Sticky: FAQ Index thread" and click on it. When you get into that scroll down to the "Custom Touch" section (almost to the bottom). Also check out the "Custom Gas Filler". I could have just posted a direct link but there is a lot of good info in the FAQ section and now the people that read this thread will know how to get to it. Thanks to Krue for indexing the FAQ's LockDoc

Re: who makes the tailight gas door???
I never thought of a 56 taillight gas filler thing but was considering a 80s Camaro type filler behind the licence plate .Depending on the bumper I decide to go with.

Re: who makes the tailight gas door???
GM had taillights that swung down to access the gas tank, like the '56 Chevy and mid-50's Cadillacs. The '56-57 Mark II from Lincoln had a taillight that swung to one side as it opened. The '57 Chevy had a section of the rear fin stainless steel that swung open.
Many of the mid-50's FoMoCo cars had the filler behind the license plate, where it mounted above the rear bumper. Later GM cars had them behind the license plate, in the rear bumper. The only problem I would wonder about in the use of a swing-down rear license plate mount would be whether or not you could fill the gas tank if the filler tube was that close to the horizontal plane that mounting the tank and the filler neck would entail.

Re: who makes the tailight gas door???
If I recall correctly, I think I seen a truck that used a Camaro gas tank and hid the filler behind the license plate.

Re: who makes the tailight gas door???
I have a quick question.... what type of tank did these guys use to have the neck going to the marker light or to the taillight? I know they are not using fuel cells cause they come out of the top so I was thinking blazer tanks. Let it be known please. Thanks.

Re: who makes the tailight gas door???
i was thinking about this mod and the thought crossed my mind that filler may work better for filling if the hinge was reversed to a swing up verses a swing down.

Re: who makes the tailight gas door???
If I recall correctly, Yank used half of a flip-down tag (like the ones found on older Olds/Pontiac/MonteCarlo). Those have a return spring that flipped the tag back up into it's original position. This is how he keeps the tail light closed. (see pic 1 & 2)
Not sure what was used on the teal colored one. If you look closely, it moves completely out of the way. Looks like an actual fuel door hinge like most of use used on our side-marker filler doors.

Re: who makes the tailight gas door???
Thanks Putter. No magnet, but I may add one. There is a spring on the side that holds it closed. When opened, it cams over and holds it open. I have some pics in this thread that explain it a little better.> http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...ht=fuel+filler
