Re: what did you get done 9/14 edition
I spent the weekend "hunkered down" riding out Hurricane Ike. Thursday evening and Friday morning I filled my storage shed with lawn furniture. I squeezed as many cars in the garage as I could and waited.
At 3:00 AM we lost power and things started getting really rough. Pine cones were hitting my roof and they sounded like large rocks. I managed to get some rest, but very little. I spent the rest of the weekend cleaning up the aftermath. I worked on my yard, cut a tree off the neighbors roof, and cleaned 4+ trash bags of pine needles out of my pool. We finally got power back today, so I don't have to listen to the generator all night. I might actually get some sleep.

Re: What did you get done? 9/14 edition
brought home a new 84 short bed on Friday
spent the weekend cleaning and waxing it up It had white spoked wheels that needed a fresh coat of paint so I scrbbed them up and shot them with a light gold metalic paint and they look great against the brown truck before pics and after pics This thing is looking good enough to keep for a while MArk |

Re: What did you get done? 9/14 edition
Craigslist 1982 Chevy body. When I got there it's an 82 GMC, theft, column busted, no motor, trans, rad, seat belt cut (they used it to tow the truck off). Michigan truck was undercoated, needs bumping on 1 fender, 1 cab corner, 1 floor support, and the bed has some issues. Beautiful doors and floors! Silver with blue interior. Had to offload the stuff on the traailer (in the rain), then went and picked it up. Cost me a whopping $500! Hauled it home in the rain (spending quality time in the 99 with my daughter. Priceless). Decided to do a complete Craigslist build up (well, a little e-bay too). Will post pics once the rain stops.

Re: What did you get done? 9/14 edition
Took my 76 from this:
down to this: finally down to this: Then I sand blasted all that fresh exposed frame (after it had been pressure steam washed 3 times) plus a little bit of the previously protected frame to ensure there was no rust creep: Now tonight it will get a thorough degreasing scrub followed up with acid etch and tomorrow I'll put two coats of POR15 just like the back, weather permitting, so I can begin putting it all back together Wednesday. |

Re: What did you get done? 9/14 edition
I also got nothing done on the truck, I have neglected my build for a short time to take on another contract project that is proving to eat my time alive. I am swapping a '90 b18a1 (1.8L DOHC, from an Acura Integra) into a '89 honda CRX with a factory d15a (1.5L SOHC). This will take the car from a roughly 90hp motor to around 150hp after I fab the new intake system and replace the throtle body on the new motor. Here is a pic of after, only thing left to do is the wiring conversion now.

Re: What did you get done? 9/14 edition
I bought a Ford, and went canoeing this weekend.
My father-in-law has been sick for a long time, and is no longer able to drive his 5 speed Ford Ranger. I traded him my little Mazda with the automatic transmission and some cash for it. It is a really nice little 2000 V6 extended cab XLT. I always hesitate to tear anything apart on the Chevy because I always seem to need a truck for stuff as soon as I do. Hopefully, with two trucks, that will no longer be a problem. I also went canoeing on the Guadalupe river yesterday. We did 8 miles of river with me in a canoe by meyself. Everyone else was in kayaks, but the folks we rented them from didn't have one big enough for me (6' 2" and 275 pounds). The water was really low, and I kept getting stuck on rocks. My arms are so tired right now from heaving the thing off the rocks! Slonaker |

Re: What did you get done? 9/14 edition
I hit the parts yard early Saturday and picked up a good condition belt tensioner to replace mine that was making noise at low rpm. I also scored a drivers side window visor, a knob for my intermittent wipers and a good condition console.
I installed the tensioner and had a potential buyer come by and look at my truck Saturday afternoon then I cleaned up and headed out to watch some football. Sunday I cleaned and painted the console...now I just need some bucket seats!

Went to the Street Machine Fall Nationals in Springfield, MO. Look here for a few trucks that were there.http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...=1#post2890688 Also mentioned the board to a few truck owners. I need to print up some business cards to hand out, and let people know about the board.

Saturday went to ball park in arlington swap meet, wasn't a good turn out because all of the rain, so I went to traders village, and picked up some smoked taillights look alot better and fit better than the carbon fiber, and Sunday I spent most of the day buffing my truck with some machine glaze

Re: What did you get done? 9/14 edition
Saturday my buddy and me went to a small (ca.180 cars) american car gettogether and had a great day with lots of talking and looking!
My truck was the only C 10 on the place! There were many nice cars new and old and many corvettes that made me thinking about swapping the motor for a LS 1! Mustangs are really popular and i love them too! I manged to buy a pair of brandnew 295/50/15 Cooper Cobra tires for 140 bucks!

Re: What did you get done? 9/14 edition
friday night...
pulled the motor out to inspect the spun rod... yep, #1 t-o-a-s-t-e-d, plus I found a hole in the #8 intake runner just under the spring pocket, which would explain why I kept fouling plugs on that cylinder... oh well, since the local track closed down and is being turned into a sub-division, I was planning on "detuning" it a little for some weekend cruzin Sat. 11:00 am grabbed the Merlin heads, 308 solid roller cam, lifters, and Victor intake, and headed over to my local performance shop (good friend owns) and traded all that for a RPM Air-gap, Comp 274XE cam/lifter kit, set of 781 GM heads, power steering pump w/ bracket, a set of eagle "H" beam rods, plus all the stuff to redo the heads (springs, retainers, locks, larger valves) 1:00 pm dropped heads off at the machine shop to cut for larger valves (3 angle, 2.19/1.88 valves) mild bowl work, and clean up the castings in the runners. Sat 2:00pm Power goes out... (thanks Ike). Pull the remaining rods/pistons, rain starts blowing in so I have to close the garage door...now I can't see (thanks Ike) sit on the couch and watch my neighbor lose her horse barn peice by peice. 9:00 pm still no power... See how many times I can scare my wife and daughter in the dark. long story, short... no power until Sunday around 3:00pm here's a few pics of the tear-down...

Re: What did you get done? 9/14 edition
Did some painting on my free truck box... and picked up a couple of bed rails from Craigslist. Did some modifications and they are ready to be bolted in! ...mostly where the bed meet the cab - too long and a different shape.

Re: What did you get done? 9/14 edition
Got my '73 running! I'm not sure exactly how long this truck has been sitting, but little by little I've been replacing parts on the engine..(carb, intake, dist, gaskets, etc) On Sunday I bought a new starter and took it out there. On my first attempt, I had the distributor off 180 degrees (never fails). I flipped that around and tried again and she fired up right away! She sounds solid too! SHE'S ALIVE!

Re: What did you get done? 9/14 edition
Another Ike survivor here. The wind started really picking up around 5:00pm on Friday. We lost power just after midnight. Sounded like freight trains running right outside our bedroom window all night long. Not too easy to get sleep when limbs are crashing down all over the place. Had one large limb from a neighbors tree hit the roof above our kitchen, then it rolled off onto the fence knocking it down.
It rained most of the day Saturday, so we did not get out to survey the damage until late afternoon. All in all, we were very lucky compared to a lot of people in the neighborhood. Spend Sunday and Monday cleaning up. Power finally came on late Monday afternoon. Woo Hooo!!

Lost 2 trees, much better than most, power and water came back on around noon on Monday. Back to work on Wednesday. Attached a couple of pic's of my area.

Went to Jekyll Island, GA for the weekend. Went seining, caught a bunch of shrimp, blue crab and mullet. Fed some dolphins, got really, really sunburnt.
