Mounting Gauges Behind Bezel?
I'm ready to start building my gauge cluster and I think I want to mount the gauges behind the bezel. Any hints or instructions on how to do this, what I need to do this, and is there any specific gauge to use or stay away from?

Re: Mounting Gauges Behind Bezel?
I did this on my truck for the temp and oil pressure gauges... Will be doing the tach this winter. I used Autometer Sport Comp II short sweep gauges which look very similar to the factory ones.
Here is how I installed them: Removed the bezel and lense from the front of the gauge. I then used the gasket from the inside of the bezel and glued it to the outer ring on the front of the gauge. This sits up against the back side of the factory tin. I carefully cut a hole in the back tin just barely enough to fit over the gauge. Then, I used the supplied plastic mounting rings but instead of attaching it to the back of the gauge, I cut it down to fit inside the back tin. When the back tin is attached back in place, it holds the gauge against the face of the cluster. I think they turned out really good... Without telling people, they don't even notice they're not factory.

Re: Mounting Gauges Behind Bezel?
There's an article in the FAQ's that shows exactly how to do it.

Re: Mounting Gauges Behind Bezel?
Oh great, anytime someone puts "carefully" in a set of instructions, it usually costs me a little extra money and a couple of extra attempts. Thanks guys.

WOW! Thanks for the Link! I was going to post up where to get a gauge pod for some "Extra" gauges. You just solved my problem. |
