Steel cowl hood
Has anyone had problems getting the cowl hood for 67 PU to fit? Mine seems to be about 3/8" too long.

Re: Steel cowl hood
Can't say anything in particular about cowl hoods but I can say something about aftermarket sheetmetal in general. It is not worth wasting your money on. For some reason no one can make the sheetmetal where it fits, it is always thinner than the original panels, and the body lines are dull and not crisp. After getting frustrated over and over with repro crap I now only buy and use excellent quality original parts. Usually they are even cheaper than the repro stuff as well.

Re: Steel cowl hood
You are not going to find an NOS cowl hood. The one I purchased for my 72 fits good. The box was marked Counter Parts and I purchased it from

Re: Steel cowl hood
Mine is bowed across the middle. If I ran over it from side to side it would probably be about 3/8 too long also. Good reason for my original hood to be at the body shop getting repaired. The cowl never did fit right.

Re: Steel cowl hood
It doesnt have to be NOS to be in great shape. Here is what I am looking for when I buy metal. Must have factory original paint on it (that way no bodywork can be hiding), must have ZERO RUST, and no major dents and only enough dings that one teaspoon of bondo will straighten the whole piece out. I guarantee you that if you keep your eyes peeled for this type of sheetmetal you will find it. It may seem expensive but when you compare a 125 dollar quality used original fender from a swap meet to a 180 dollar repro fender, plus 20 dollar oversize fee from the company, and 50 dollars shipping the choice becomes clear. Now things like cowl hoods that werent original you are at the mercy of the reproduction manufacturers quality.

Re: Steel cowl hood
I have a steel cowl hood on my 68. It took quite a bit of fab work to make it fit the original fenders and grille. It's about how bad you want it I guess. To me,it was worth the extra work. I also agree all the repop stuff doesn't fit well either. My .02
