Anyone have a unique custom but original grille?
I'm wanting to "customize" my grille so it has uniqueness, but still can tell what year model it is. I have a 69 and would like to make part of it billet. possibly buy the billet inserts, but i want to remove the hood emblem and put an emblem in the center grille area. anyone ever seen anything like this or have any pics of a grille similar to this?

Haven't seen it but it sounds cool...you could get an aftermarket outer grill (I have one for sale without any letters) and then drill a couple of holes to mount the emblem or just cut off the studs on the emblem and epoxy/3m adhesive tape it to the grille. Then like you said, you could buy the billet inserts and it would look pretty sweet.

Re: Anyone have a unique custom but original grille?
It looks like an early model Corvette grill.
Nope.

Re: Anyone have a unique custom but original grille?
While it is an early Vette grille with added teeth, the '53 and '54 Chevy passenger car grilles are quite similar and have been swapped into a multitude of 50's era customs. Another possibility along this line is the grille from mid-50's DeSoto's and the '55-56 Plymouth. I have given thought to a '57 Chevy grille bar for mine. It has the turn signals in the assembly and for a '69-70, that would solve the problem. It would be better to use a '71-72 grille surround and then recess whatever mounting surface you would have to use, whether billet or expanded metal. Or, you could just "float" the grille in the cavity, but you'd have to be sure the background items (radiator, radiator support, A/C condensor) were all as unseen as possible and blended together visually.

Quote:
and yes i would need a reproduction grille that didn't have the letters embossed in it. Also, I hate to give away all of my ideas cuz i want it to be unique, but what about putting the emblem in the center of the 69-70 reproduction grille, putting billet inserts in the top and bottom openings , and then also Cutting out 2 rectangular areas on each side of the grille emblem, and doing some type of custom work and inserting billet on each side of the emblem, in the center of the grille..... man that would be sweet, can anyone Photoshop that???????? |
