The 9.5SF became standard in '81 and the 10.5FF was availibe as an upgrade.

Hey there,

I got my 14 bolt and Dana 60 out from a 85 Chevy 1 ton.
I rebuild the 14 bolt myself, slap in gears, lockers, and disk brake conversion, relocate the leaf spring mounts and a fresh paint job. Looking sharp!! WooHoo.. Rock on people!!

no 14 bolt til 73...

Madrid, dang, 4:88 ?
No highway cruising for you in your 1 ton Blazer!!
I take it 4:88 is aftermarket combo?
What would an 85 4x4 have for ratio normally ?

The reason for the 73-81 business, is the full-floater was dropped from K20's in favor of the 9.5" semi-float. So 73-81 is FF. 82-91 is SF. Many C20's after 81 still had the full-floater. C30/K30 always has (had) a FF.

Hey FastChevy,

Both the Dana 60f and the 14ff bolt came with 4:56 when I took them off the 85 Chevy. The 4:88 gears are needed to offset the large tires. Running a 38 inch tire with 4:88 gears bring the ratio down to 3:73 or so. Plus, my tranny also has an .76 overdrive. So, cruzing from 65 to 75mph on the highway my rmp's are hover between 1800 to 2200. Thats within the range of the torque curve of a low end motor. This enables me to have 10 to 12 miles to the gallon on the highway, unless I floor the gas pedle..
Rock on people!!!
