Gas tank supports
I had a leaking ga tank and the other one never worked. Tore into yesterday and tore it all down. I need to find a place that has the supports for them. Both sides are to far gone for me to want to put new tanks on. Anywhere have these or are they a junk yard find?

Re: Gas tank supports
I am not looking for straps. I need the arms that bolt to the frame to hold tanks, straps bolt to these.

Re: Gas tank supports
I found some at a junk yard for my buddy's 85. You may have to look around some and be sure to take penetrating oil with you and get the supports for the correct side. We had to gety one for a different side, it works, but the welded nuts are in different places. Godd luck.

Re: Gas tank supports
Part number for the fuel tank "L" bracket supports is 15624662 from the dealership. I found one dealership in Mo. that shows to have one in stock is...
"JIM RAYSIK, INC. (660)885-3355 210 S SECOND ST CLINTON, MO 64735-2104 " also show plenty availible at the warehouses. The suggested retail price for them from a dealership is $35.45 each. Good luck and have fun!!!

Re: Gas tank supports
Thanks BLE BURBAN, I called them up and the prices are a little higher than that. One is 85 and the other is 86 dollars as of 4pm. I found a guy on craigslist who sold me a rolling chassis, it has both sets of brackets and 2 good tanks. My question is do the tanks from and 85 switch with an 87. I know the sending units won't and obviously mine is fi. But can I stick my sending unit and new pumps into an 85 tank.

Re: Gas tank supports
If you look inside your '87 tanks you'll see a "slosh bowl" that the pump for the F.I. It serves to keep the pump submerged in the fuel so it won't "burn out" internally from lack of fuel flowing through it as it uses the fuel to keep it cool and functioning properly. Commonly referred to as "cavitating". This "bowl" is an integral part of the tank and cannot be removed without destroying the tank. You MAY be able to use the older tanks for a bit But I would strongly suggest getting the proper ones and fix it right the first time.

Re: Gas tank supports
I got the frame home tonight. It is in pretty good shape I am taking the tank brackets off of it and the rest needs to go. It has a 10 bolt axle, 2 rallyes, leaf springs yada yada yada. I think I have found 2 tanks also. Thanx burban.
