Aother HEI question!
Hey guys:
Please be patient with me, I am slow learner (as some of you know by now!). I am reading all the HEI conversion threads but being me I am confused. I have this brand new mallory system which I got very cheap. It has the coil on top of the cap and also has 3 wires coming out of it:red, brown and black. My truck is 67 and ignition is on the dash then I assume I have inline ballast resistor with two wire set up which I have to delete them right?. Then do I connect the red wire from distributor to 12v ignition, black to the ground and Brown?! Does anything go to the starter? Thanks for the help.

Re: Aother HEI question!
New 12v wire from the fuse box (switched), one is for the tach... shouldn't need a ground
I installed my Mallorey that way and it ran fine. Nothing new to the starter and terminate the original white coil wire (6V)

Re: Aother HEI question!
I have my HEI running off the unfused switched pin on the fuse block that msgross mentioned. The hardest part of the deal is figuring out where to push the wire through the firewall.
The pin next to the screw on the top in this drawing but side in the truck is the one I use. |

Re: Aother HEI question!
I just installed one on my 68. I have one 12vdc wire going into the distributor. That's it... No ground wire and no tach. The dis is externally grounded when it's bolted down.
But, I guess it wouldn't hurt to ground it, though... |

Re: Aother HEI question!
Search the FAQ's for member "shifty's" write up on doing a 6 cyl.HEI.He gives the part #'s and which spot in the electrical connector to wire it so it looks factory.I can't help on which wires go where but if you search for Mallory they would probably have a wiring diagram on their site.
