Transmission question

Im looking at a 72 short bed with a 350/350

The guy said the tranny is set up for racing and will only shift manually and does not go into reverse

Any idea what would have to be done to fix it?

Re: Transmission question

I have a fully built th350 to hold over 1000hp and it goes in reverse perfectly I dont know how they built that one. A manual valve body for the shifting is fine, but you should be able to have reverse with no issues..

Re: Transmission question

i dont know much about transmissions but an autotrans that you can only shift manualy and doesnt have reverse, sounds to me like the guy is covering for the fact that the tranny is bad
i hang around quite a few racers both drag and track and there a a couple who have built up th350's and one powerglide and none of those trannys have any issues shifting or with reverse
i would have a tranny shop check out that tranny with you and the current owner present so the story is straight

I figured it was a valve body that would cause the manual shifting but confused as to why it doesnt have reverse.

Wonder if there is a pressure plate mixed up or something.
