brake problem

I'm having an issue with my brakes on my 63. I know that I need an alignment because my truck is pulling to the left. My problem is that when I brake hard it pulls to the right, not real bad, but still. When it rains or I drive through standing water and brake regularly it pulls really bad to the right.

Any suggestions?

First of all, trucks '63 and earlier have manual adjusters (unless converted). You must adjust your brakes manually from time to time. I usually do mine when the pedal seems to be getting low.

So you are having two issue here: an alignment pull and a brake pull.

First thing to do is jack the front end up and set it safely on stands..remove wheels and drums and inspect brake linings. Brake soaked lining could cause a problem...If ok, and everything else is cool, then reinstall drums and wheels. Now time to adjust.

Using an adjustment tool or flat screwdriver, I usually tighten them all the way tight, then back off a couple of 'clicks'.

I adjust brakes so you have a slight drag when the wheel is spun.

Depress the brake pedal from time to time to center the shoes.

If done correctly and evenly, you should have a straight stopper.

I would first align the caster, camber and toe first, then go on to the brakes.

If the things ChiefRocka suggested don't help your problem. Rubber brake hoses that are old, or have been clamped off, can collapse internally and cause a brake pull. They may or may not look ok externally.
