Re: Project "Rock-a-Billy".....Saga Continues.....
I have been....haven't touched it in a week or so....debateing on the crossmember right now. Should I spend the time to fab one up, or purchase the reasonably priced nice one from Bowtie OD's with e-brake ready to go ??
Sometimes...you just got to bite the bullet and do it....

Re: Project "Rock-a-Billy".....Saga Continues.....
The Painless wing kit works really well, and is prices pretty cheap. You may want to get a Caprice tailhousing instead of the Camaro one, though. It will make fabbing the crossmamber a little easier as it doesn't have the torque arm mount bracket holes in it.

Re: Project "Rock-a-Billy".....Saga Continues.....
Sure will...although, I just won some OG mirrors from E-bay....Should be here soon....
The mirrors I currently have were purchased at Kragens.....They were actually a good size for actual use. The old-school ones you see hanging from the door tops, weren't my style, and are pretty much useless IMO.

Re: Project "Rock-a-Billy".....Saga Continues.....
I drove down to Gilroy, and found a couple of C-10 in a wrecking yard.
One was a 66 CustomCab, but the steering wheel was pretty wasted...it did have an auto column, but that thing was pretty loose too...would need a full rebuild. He did have a nice column in a 67...it looked to be good. Then he showed me a nice column shift TILT out of a 72...it was nice and tight (we like it that way) and all the levers were intact. Really nice, but he wants $225 for it....Kinda pricey Anyway, decisions decisions. I thought about the rat-fink, rat-rod shifter off the floor...but still wanted to keep the floor open. Still gonna keep my eye open a little longer....

Re: Project "Rock-a-Billy".....Saga Continues.....
I'm with you on the column-shift. While auto tranny shifters definitely look cool when they're on the floor, I think it negates the idea behind an automatic in the first place.
Keep it on the column, and enjoy the space. Besides, they look cool hanging off the steering column--like the big classy American iron it is! |

Re: Project "Rock-a-Billy".....Saga Continues.....
That's what I'm thinking...
My daughter just turned 4, and still uses a booster type car-seat in my truck. Those little legs would often get in the way of speed-shift'n my 3-speed... This is my reasoning for wanting it column shifted.... One thing I must say, I'm gonna miss that clutch !! Also thought about fabing up my own cable operated shifter, mabey coming from under the dash, and curving up towards the windshield...kinda ratty still

Re: Project "Rock-a-Billy".....Saga Continues.....
Not yet man....I have been busy with other things.
Still pluggin away on the 'Z069', trying to get that thing back together, running and back to paint. This time off my truck has got me thinking....I don't think I can part with that clutch just yet....it's too fun !! I have a Muncie I was saving for my Nova and was thinking of throwing that in my truck rather than the 700R4. Even the wife was like "Isn't it more fun to smoke the tires with a manual, than an auto?" But, then I'm back to the shifter in the way.....Decisions, decisions....

Re: Project "Rock-a-Billy".....Saga Continues.....
I wanted to get a truck and keep it all stock. For some reason the I6's sound good in these trucks. I wouldn't mind a 3 or 4 speed either. Gee I wonder how long that would last...

Any possibility of rigging up a column shifter with that muncie?
I'm at a loss as to how one could do such a thing, but I just thought I'd ask... |

Re: Project "Rock-a-Billy".....Saga Continues.....
It can be done... You have to run a cable to the reverse gear.... Ive seen it done with a choke cable... you just have to make sure it is in neutral before you pull the knob to put it in reverse or bad things will happen..
