yeah you guys are going to get alot fo teasers ,lol. i spend way to much time just looking at how nice the frame is and the way the bolts look. Man i think grade 8 bolt on a frame are the coolest thing since sliced bread.

You big tease! That is looking great. I sat for many hours just staring at my frame when I was putting it back together...a test fit here and a test fit there...fun stuff no doubt.
If you are going to keep that baby out of the weather from now on you will no trouble with those grade 8's loosing their finish, but if you are building a driver you may want to shoot some enamel on them prior to assembly....just a thought...

Looks great Alex. When you had the frame powdercoated, did you have to take it all apart, or was the place capable of handling a complete frame? There is a place about 60 miles from me that can powdercoat, but they can only fit 1 frame rail at a time, so it would have to be totall disassembled.

painting bolts
Alexis,
here is what my Grade 8's look like with a little enamel on them. The easiest way to paint them is to get yourself a piece of styrofoam (I used peices out of a PC box) and then you can poke holes in it with the bolts and they will stand up for you to paint them easily....does that make sense??? Looking great and keep teasing us....

I blasted mine so I took clean metal to the coater. The red parts cost me $400. The grey parts were $75 and I had to buy the red powder myself since it was a special color they didn't carry. That was $150.00.

I work with Stainless Steel Fastners a lot. 316 stainless alloy to be exact. Stainless is a poor fastner if you ask me. It is not verry strong at all. It galls (gums) up easily etc.
It does have excellent corrosive resistance however. It works good for locations that dont require strength, such as body panels, bed wood fastners, engine "dress up" stuff. But I would never use it where strenght is an issue. IE: Chassis / fastners. Just my thoughts... Darren

For the reasons that imdarren listed. Stainless does not have a very good shear strength and they gall up very easily. For areas that are show only (like around hood latch) I will use stainless, but where there is stress put I wanted Grade 8's.

I painted all of the washers, bolts, and nuts prior to installing them. I have over $100 invested in them for the frame alone. You can buy enamel to match your hammer powder at most hardware stores.
I put some tape around the heads of the bolts and the nuts to keep from scarring them up when I torqued them down. The key is to clean them well, primer and then shoot the enamel. Let them dry for a good day before putting the wrench to them. Your frame looks sweet. I almost did my frame in the grey hammer, but I just ended up accenting with springs and such for mine.
