Re: project (sweet pea)

Got four good coats of Poly Primer on her today....And got the hood set back on..........The only thing left to do is to get the whole truck blocked........I dont want to sound corny,But there is a big weight off my shoulders.....Even with so much more work to do and things to put on, i feel the hard work is all behind me......I simply cannot wait to get it blocked out and get some color on her......Anyways here are a few pictures.....Of where she sits at this point....Plans are to attack the blocking of the cab next Friday and Saturday....And the bed to follow when time permits....Should not be too much longer for some GREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEN....

Re: project (sweet pea)

yes indeed i keep saying that you might want to consider two tone dark and light green or maybe gold green , it doesnt jump you as mush as the silver green .
you need to do sumtin to the single coat to set it off a bit

Re: project (sweet pea)

I have been thinking of adding a small stripe, same color but just with out the pearl treatment......We will see what i decide once it is in the booth.......This color (without) the pearl has a different tone to it....I am just wanting it to have a little class....But IMO the green alone is enough...

Well I like it including your choice of your hood. I think cowls are overdone. Looks great.

I agree and think that the color stands by itself as a showstopper w/out needing two-tone....Plus, these trucks have such great body lines w/ the pearl you'll be getting some variation along those.

Re: project (sweet pea)

I know exactly how you feel when you say ,"a big weight has been lifted off my shoulders". I felt the exact same way when my truck was at the same stage yours is. I guess when you do paint and body for a living (as do I) ,and you take on a project as big as one of these trucks ,that feeling is hard to come by. Either way ,it looks like it's coming right along, and the hard part is behind you, as you stated. Can't wait to see it finished.

Re: project (sweet pea)

i agree with the big weight on your shoulders, i just got the 69 camaro at work primed and currently blocksanding with 800 wet for a nice flat surface, man it feels great! by the way if you primed that with poly primer, did you mean polyester filler primer( bondo primer), cause if you did , do you not have to reprime with primer for sealing the poly, i know i do here, just curious what u do?

Re: project (sweet pea)

John... I agree IMO the whole cowl hood thing is over done.....I was going to get one, then i seen that it seems everyone has one.......

VA72C10...i agree a 100%...I got in the ,mixing room today and was spraying some of the varients......And i was also playing with the pearls...I may do something i may not.....My thinking now is trying to (hide) a nice stripe on some way....And maybe doing something on just the front fenders and the doors......We will see....

69chevyshort.........yep......Doing this for 99.9% on my own. Has been no small task.....It seemed overwhelming at times to get everything checked off my list.....

nuke1........Yes its that kind of Poly Primer....I would not do any project with out this stuff....Even though i am a Spies man........The Poly Primer is R/M......I have used it many times before, and you are correct....It will need a few coats of Primer Surfacer on top of it,Especially since i am spraying water born.....Water born loves to show sand scratches even in the 400 grit range.....I plan to Re-Primer the whole cab and doghouse and do a final block in 600......I have gotten by before with out the addition of a primer surfacer, but that was with a solvent base.......Water Born base lays out flatter........

Re: project (sweet pea)

I am planning on a chevy cobalt blue color that was stock on avalanches, but playing with it a bit to make it a little richer and adding a little more pearl and metallic to it. I thought about doing a ghost stripe along where the trim lines go in the same color w/ additional pearl mixed in to set it off. The other thought is to do the lower trim only, but airbrushed on, not actual trim.

Re: project (sweet pea)

Well Saturday was the big day for the blocking of the cab....There was supposed to be 3 guys helping me. But only one showed....Which he always does when i need him.....(thanks Andy).....Anyways we started at 7:30 Saturday Morning. Did a first round with 220,to cut everything, re-guide coated and did a 320 round,re-guide coated again, and finished with a 400 grit round..Everything blocked out great....There are 3 very small little pencil eraser size dings that need some attention. But other than that she feels great....I am going to have Our painter Stan go over everything....I think i am going to bow out and let him Spray it.....We have talked about it quite a bit, He is far better than me more experience with water and (he paints probably 30 cars a week) and i think i will be in there all day worried to death. It has been a while since i did a all over for my self. Anyways as long as he gives me the green light, she should have color on it very soon....The bed is next. Plans are to block it out next Saturday. Same process...So if time allows she should have color the next week or so.......
