need bearing/spindle help !

a year ago i had bought a complete disc brake comversion kit off ebay. it had 2 1/2 dropped spindles and 1 1/4 drilled rotors and it included the 73-87 ball joints to make it work on my 70. i have decided to raise it back up to stock, so i went to the junk yard and got a pair of stock spindles off an 83 1/2 ton. today i started to switch them out and they bolted up to the ball joints and tie rod just fine. but the rotors won't go back on ! did some checking and the bearings are bigger i.d.on the drop spindles. what do i need to change to make this work ? i would hate to have to buy new rotors ? any ideas ?

Go to a bearing house like Kamin and take both sets of bearings to see if they can cross match you a set. All you need is the OD and ID of what you need and they should be able find a set. I did this on my trailer when I changed axles and wanted to keep my hubs.

The outer is the same on both - BCA A3, You need an BCA A5 set for the 83 inner, also get a BCA 8871 seal. Replace the cup and the bearing and you'll be ok. The 1" rotors are A3 outer and A6 inner. A6 is a smaller ID bearing and a shorter cup.

Re: need bearing/spindle help !

well i just went and bought the a5 bearings and they are way to sloppy for the spindles. i'll take them back and see if the a3 bearings will work. i hope i can keep my 1 1/4 rotors.

Re: need bearing/spindle help !

Sounds like you purchased some light duty spindles off of the junk yard truck. It probably has 1" spindle pins and if so the 1 1/4" rotors will not work on them. You need spindles with 1 1/4" pins. WES

Re: need bearing/spindle help !

yep your right. i called the place that made the spindles. they said every thing is differant between light duty and heavy duty,(1" vs 1 1/4").including the calipers,bearings.rotors...so i went back to the junk yard and found a 79 with 1 1/4 rotors,so i grabed the spindles and slid my bearing over it to make sure. now i'm back in bussiness. it was also a lot cheaper than buying everything for the 1" spindles.
