HEI Distributor part
http://www.customclassictrucks.com/h...ade/index.html
After reading the above article, I decided to try rebuilding my distributor. Bought a junk one so I wouldn't be stranded. They never mentioned the little plastic shield that goes on the pole piece just before the shaft goes into the housing. I destroyed mine during cleaning, because I didn't know it was there. I'm not sure if it keeps stuff out of the distributor, or stuff from the distributor from falling down and getting lodged between the shaft and the housing. Anyone have any idea where I can get one ? Thanks. |

Basically its to keep the grease (he used wheel bearing grease) in place. I don't know why else it would be there. From what I saw, the grease is absorbed by the bushing and keeps it lubricated. You should be able to make you one to fit over it if you need one. |

Re: HEI Distributor part
If anyone intends to redo their HEI read it carefully -especially this step:
Once the gear is off, the shaft should slide out. If it doesn't, there is probably a rust build up on it. Use some penetrating oil and work carefully to avoid damaging the bushings. Don't force it out by hammering or tapping on it. Take your time and let the penetrating oil do its thing. I forced mine and actually moved the upper bearing. It had a lot of dried up oil and grime on it. |

Re: HEI Distributor part
Is this the piece your talking about? If so I've run w/o it as those holes don't go through. I would cut a piece of plastic from water bottle and silicone it in there. Dont use metal.

Re: HEI Distributor part
Yes, that's the piece.
One of the holes goes thru from the side, into the opening for the shaft. I'll make something up. Thanks for the input. |

Re: HEI Distributor part
I forgot to ask earlier. Does anyone know where I can find these "bushings" ?
They sit under the weights. Thanks |

Re: HEI Distributor part
Not sure which bushing's you are referring to. If it's those plastic insert bushing in the pic here's a pic and part number. Check the Napa store for most of the parts you need for rebuilding.
Napa pn is DP112 HEI weight plastic bushings. http://www.napaonline.com/masterpage...ibutor+Bushing |
