another hp question
i have a 350 bored 40 over, pre unleaded heads, 202 intake, 160 exhaust, lunati 468 lift cam, victor jr intake, edelbrock 600. any ideas how much hp this is putting out? this is in a 75 short wide, it feels stout and WILL get stupid with you. the wife is afraid to ride in it anymore, lol.

Re: another hp question
You are probably making around ~350 HP at the crank with that setup. I'm guessing that number is going to be higher up in the RPM range because of the Victor Jr. intake.
I can get you some Desktop Dyno numbers if you want, but I'd need a lot more specific information for that. If you want a DD run, I need: Casting number of heads Compression ratio Part number of camshaft

Re: another hp question
I'd bet around 275-280 Hp and 300 ftlbs of torque on a good day.
The actual number means nothing. If it's fun(and a little scarry) then it's almost enuff.

Re: another hp question
I'm surprised it runs good with a 600 on a vic Jr. I tried one of those intakes on an old motor I had and it was too much intake for my 355 small cam combo. The best way to tell what it will do is take it to the track. You can get pretty close with the truck weight and some run info.

Re: another hp question
well sheeit, ya think so? well that sucks, i bought the victor jr new from jegs on the advice of one of their techs. i bought a demon carb, 750cfm at the same time and couldnt get it to work to save my life. sent it back to barry grant twice and they said there was nothing wrong with it. so i sent it back to jegs and got the 600 edlebrock. is the victor jr too much intake for my set up or what? the truck seems to have plenty of power and runs fine, but if i punch it, it seems to bog down. i cant get the power to the ground it seems, what gives??? i appreciate your input and thanks again.

Re: another hp question
Sorry for the bad news... but you need a dual plane intake for the setup you have. Single plane intakes arent good for the street unless you are building a max effort street/strip engine. You are probably giving up 15-20 lb-ft of torque down low were you you really need it.
When you install bigger cams, intakes, carbs, etc, you most likely have to raise your initial timing. What is your timing set at now? this could be causing your bogging problem. What is the duration on your cam? If you have too much and didnt change your torque converter it will bog when taking off. Also larger cams and high rearend gears can cause this. |

Re: another hp question
i've got the timing right, its burning clean at the plugs, idles good and runs great. i have a Pertronix flame thower distributor. it bogs slightly if i try to do a burnout or 20 mph punch. i still have the original 3 speed with a zoom clutch and the original 12 bolt limited slip rearend in it. i've since gotten a posi 12 bolt to put in it when i change the gearing, and a power glide tranny that needs going thru. hopefully i'll have these in the truck this summer. my thoughts have been it was this area that was causing my problem. the buying of a new intake is cheap so i'll do that first, hell it makes sense to me. whats the biggest carb you would run with my set up on a performer rpm? unlike most, im not worried about gas mileage on this truck, its a weekend cruiser spending most of its life in the shop. its a sweet little truck, fun to drive, sounds great, turns heads, and keeps the 20 year olds in mustangs on their toes. it just seems that as much money as i have in that motor the damn thing ought to bake those Mickey's on the back. thanks again, Pro Street and the rest of you guy's..............Fast75

Re: another hp question
Fast75, I would not use the powerglide in your truck because it is only a 2 speed and they were designed for a light vehicle. It would make a dog out of your truck. If you really want to change trannys, i would go with the th350 or th400 with approx. a 2000-2500 stall depending on your cam specs and 3.73 gears. Although i dont like edlebrock carbs the 600 should do fine. By the way, they have two versions of the eddy carbs. Performance tune and gas econo tune. Back to your bogging problem, i still believe its a good possibility its in your timing. You may need to put a curve kit in it to change the rate of advance. What is your initial timing set at? What is your total timing? I realize your plugs are clean and runs well but your timing could still be less than optimal... Basicly only 2 things will cause this, the tune of your timing curve or the tune of the carb. BUT, if you are goin to change intakes i would not change anything until that. The correct intake will require a dif tune and you may not have to change a thing. Never change more than one thing at a time.Sorry for the long reply. Hope this helps.

You took the words right out of my mouth. haha. I agree that the victor jr. is too much intake for the cam. The victor jr. is for cams making power in the 3,500 to 7,500 rpm range and with the cam you have, your only touching on a small part of the intakes powerband. IMO
