Re: tbi to carb help
Dude, why do you want to do that? That is kind of a huge step back in technology. I would suspect there will be many people lined up to trade you everything you need to go to a carb in exchange for your TBI stuff.
Back to your question, I believe you would just use the same keyed-on battery power supply wire to fire the old style HEI distributor as what is already connected to the coil you have now. I'll trade you a big cap HEI for your stuff....I don't have a carb laying around though as I threw them all away!

Re: tbi to carb help
I will second that, WHY? I have just about completed the oppsite converstion (carb to tbi). TO get back to your question, as DL said you can use the big pink wire on your coil that is on your sub right now. As far as the fuel I gues you could use a regulator to bring down the press of the in tank pump for a carb, or If your block has a fuel pump block of plate all you have to do is swap out the cam to a carb one and mount a fuel pump and fuel pump rod on the block. Also you will have to put a carb pickup in the tank if you go that route. Also change the intake. ( I have a eldebrock intake for tbi heads if you go this route just pm me). But I would be cuirous to why you want to do this swap?

Re: tbi to carb help
hello.i have a carb'd 5.7 out of a 99 escalade and love it.people have
had trouble trying to use the in tank fuel pump and some have made it work.i just put a electric fuel pump on frame rail into a regulator that runs around 3psi into a 650 edel carb and it flies.other than that like u have said get an intake, distributor and your good to go.other thing i just remembered i dont know about 90,but on my 99 motor there is no timing tab.lot of different ways to fashion one which is alot easier with engine out. havent made one for mine yet, just tune her till she runs the way u want it. i just like old school myself. |

Re: tbi to carb help
i am just thinking of this swap right now because every other week i am having to mess with the tbi unit. my truck is carb and i never have to mess with it. granted its a little harder to start thr carbed truck in cold weather but it runs so much better than the tbi. i have replaced the iacv twice and the tps three times and put a new diaphragm it the pressure regulator and it still idle erraticky and has trouble starting.with the carb i just pump gas twice and turn the key and it pops off, also the carbed motor is a rebuilt 305 and it runs circles around the crate 350tbi with less than 9000 miles on it. if any body has any suggestions on the problem i may consider keeping the tbi setup.and thanks for the replies.
