67 c10 283
Hello everyone,
I have a c10 1967 w/ stock 283. Going to freshen up the motor and stick with the 283. Even though a crate 350 is cheaper, everyone has 350s and I just love that little 4.6L. Couple of questions for the 283 gurus. Keep in mind this is not going to be raced. Just daily driver/cruiser. Here is a starting list of parts I am thinking of. Please let me know your thoughts as this is the first 283 I've done. - COMP Cams CL12-242-2 - GM Performance 12558060 - MagnaFlow 16643 - Summit SUM-G9006-9 These Vortec heads any good? On Summit site it reads They require the use of a Vortec-style intake and self-aligning rocker arms Summit site says they will fit a 67 283. Anyone have any experience with these heads? Or any suggestions on cam choice, heads, or exhaust? Any thoughts/ideas would be much appreciated. I'm ready to get to work. Thanks!! |

Re: 67 c10 283
Can you list the specs on the parts so people don't have to look them up?

Re: 67 c10 283
I have a set of iron eagle dart heads which are in the same ballpark as the vortecs if you put the bigger 2.02/1.60 valves in it and i had that same exact cam but later changed it.
If you really want power convert to a hydraulic roller cam with around 235-240 degrees duration and buy the vortec heads from scoggin dickey which already have screw in rocker studs and larger valves. For a headers I would go to a 1 5/8 to 1 3/4 stepped primary full length header.Lastly, get an edelbrock rpm air gap manifold for vortec heads. My Monte Carlo with this similar combo but with dart heads puts 350 HP to the rear wheels. |

Re: 67 c10 283
what is the use intended for the truck? That cam might be a little big for a 283 unless it is greared down (4.10-4.56 range). It is really easy to over cam a 283, try to keep the duration at 216 at .50 or less especially if it has the stock gearing.

Re: 67 c10 283
Thanks for everyones reply. Opinions/Thoughts are much appreciated. Intended use for the truck is aggressive daily driver. Is there somewhere to look up what my stock duration is on my engine?
Thanks!! |

Re: 67 c10 283
Glad to here you`re keeping the 283.Is you`re truck manual or automatic?I think what I`d do is research the specs on the performance 283s and duplicate that.Like the 263horse 283.You can always bump it up a notch for a bit more power. The 283 likes the hign side of rpms and you may want to go for more bottom end than upper with a cam.I think with the weight o a truck, that`s where you`ll feel the modt improvement.Go for torque and the rest will follow,IMO.

Re: 67 c10 283
Thanks man! To answer your question, it's a 3 speed manual. I'll check the specs on the ho 283's you mentioned. Never thought of that. I have had friends in the past put way too much cam in their engines and they sound great but are about useless unless you are at 4K RPM so I will go for the most torque I can get out of her! I'll keep you posted to my progress.
Thanks again! |
