12 bolt vs. dana 44

is a 12 bolt stronger then a dana 44

Yes it is. The Dana 44 had an 8.5" ring gear, and 19 splined axles (if I recall correctly) I have never had much luck with a 44, the axle tubes tend break loose from the housing, but thanks to the 4X4 crowd, there is a HUGE aftermarket for parts. The 12 bolt truck is beefier by nature, 8.875" ring gear, and 30 splined axles. The down fall to the 12 bolt is there is not as big of an aftermarket. It's really a toss up, as far as stock for stock, hands down to the 12 bolt, but if your going to build, they could both be a good piece
