turbo 350 / crossmember mounting ?

I tried searching but keep getting no results. The automatic xmember has two holes in the center, which both seem offset from the center. does it matter which side (left or right hole)the tranny is bolted too? any suggestions would be appreciated. I borrowed a picture from brossow for reference. the mount on my 350 has a single stud facing down (center of the tranny), and i have to shift it left or right to bolt it in. do i need another mount to be able to center the tranny? I added a picture of the engine/ tranny mounted, currently its mounted in the right hole.

The only thing I can think of is to leave enough room to get a socket on your pan bolts on the rear of the tranny pan. But I'm no expert.

Re: turbo 350 / crossmember mounting ?

bolt on the tranny mount and mount crossmember to the tranny and see wich way fits better//my common sence thinks the short space foward would be a better fit with more clearance on the correct 6'tailshaft 350 if using either of the longer tails dont think it would matter much

Heh, I thought you meant front to back, not side to side. I'm pretty sure my mount uses both holes. Are you using the stock mount or aftermarket?

Re: turbo 350 / crossmember mounting ?

Yeah, I attached a picture and edited because i thought everyone was thinking front to back when i meant side to side. as far as using a stock mount i have no clue. It looked like the po used a camaro type tranny mount prior, but we switched to the original truck tranny mount. does anyone have a picture of a stock 350 tranny mount that bolts to the transmission.

Re: turbo 350 / crossmember mounting ?

Is your trans a BOP buick olds Pontiac? It looks like it has that pattern on the bell housing as well as regular Chevy pattern? Is engine square in hole? You may have to shift trans around a bit to line up stud- it does not look like it is off much, if you dont want to do this, just get the two bolt mount and replace the one you have now. I think I had to encourage the trans just a bit in BB when I put everything back together to get everything lined back up. Just loosen the motor mount bolts a bit and nudge it over then retighten motor mount bolts. Hope this helps.

Re: turbo 350 / crossmember mounting ?

I just had the same problem. you should go with an aftermarket mount with 2 holes. I bought mine at autozone it has holes for 2 bolt mount or 1 bolt mount, and only runs about $20.

Re: turbo 350 / crossmember mounting ?

Any of your local parts stores carry the two bolt mount for the tranny, you have to look for a 72 I believe. I had the same issue on my first tranny in my 67. I went to the parts store and looked through multiple years until I came across the right one. I am pretty sure the one I bought fit a 72, but please dont quote me. Just have them pull it off the shelf and look at it. You will know when you are looking at the right one.
