Short vs Long
I'm curious of some peoples reasons why they prefer a short over a long or vice versa when it comes to looking at the box style.
I prefer short box but do like long box. |

Re: Short vs Long
In my mind things have to be symmetrical, and have balance to flow properly. The proportions of a SWB truck are symmetrically correct, and become enhanced when lowered.
I use the same sense of balance on a lifted truck. Once raised in the air a LWB looks more visually correct.

But I've seen some long boxes that look.. It just seems that in different areas of where you live certain trucks are easier to find than others. Like I've been looking lately and 90% of the trucks in my area are all long box. |

Re: Short vs Long
I like the short bed trucks better in 2wd but the long bed lifted 4x4's are really growing on me .It is just a matter of personal taste I think. Some people see the long bed as more of a "work truck" too I think so that may be some of it.

Re: Short vs Long
I like long for 3 reasons:
1. Everybody else likes short...I like to be different 2. The short ones look kinda chopped off to me which makes them look a little more sporty but I prefer a truck that looks more like a work vehicle. 3. You can put more stuff back there!

Re: Short vs Long
I like longbeds because once I put my toolbox on it, I have a shortbed spacewise. If I put a toolbox on a shortbed, there's not much left. I gotta have a toolbox, not for tools but it's my trunk for all my junk. my first one was a shorty and it always looked a little out of proportion. I got to looking and the fact the cab and front end are longer than the short bed looked off to me. My lwb satisfys my sense of proportion...lol

Re: Short vs Long
like it was said every-1 has a short bed I like to be different so I got a long bed. I like the long bed for one thing only if i want to put a tool box on it i'll still have 6 or so feet were the short is not a tool box truck. trucks to me have to have a tool box. also a full sheet of ply wood fits perfect lol

Re: Short vs Long
I like the long chevy's cause its different and they ride much nicer. And as far as lifting and dropping i think the lwb looks better lowered and the swb looks ok lifted.

Re: Short vs Long
i like long beds - they just seem proportioned more evenly than a shorty in that the tray/bed shouldnt be shorter than the cab... just my opinion...

Re: Short vs Long
I vote long bed, as any truck I own needs to be useable as a truck. Hauling full sheets of plywood, ect is sometimes needed. If I can't haul 4' x 8' sheets, why do I even have a truck?

Re: Short vs Long
I like both, the short bed seems more sporty to me, for lowering and cruzing.
The long bed is more towards the work truck aspect, that is why I built my long bed, pulling a camper, trailers, and over all hauling machine, but who says a work truck has to look like a work truck.

Re: Short vs Long
This topic is covered quite a bit, here, and in just about every other online truck community.
It is funny how people say they like long beds because they are different. For the record, there were more long beds produced than short beds. The reason they appear to be more rare today is because I assume most were worked to death, while the short beds seem to have lived easier lives. Go to a junkyard, how many long beds do you see in there compared to short? I don't think I have seen but 1 or 2 short beds in yards around here. I have had several of both, and prefer short beds by far. Sure, they can't haul as much...but they sure are easier to park, have a tighter turning radius, and hold their value better than their long bed brothers. BUT, I like them all and wouldn't kick any of them out of my driveway.
