Stock Steering Column Measurement

For those of you out there who used the stock steering column in the cab, and a universal joint set-up going to the steering gear box, what was your length of column from the dash connection to the steering wheel. Wow that was a long question. A condensed version would be, how long did you make the column from where it attaches to the dash to the bottom of the steering wheel. Is it personal preference, or should it be a certain length? It just feels to "up in my chest" at the stock location. Give me some feedback. Thanks in advance,
Jeff
