Great 68 CL deal!

This is on the local CL.

http://raleigh.craigslist.org/cto/1010470920.html

Email from owner.

Quote:
The truck has a 235CI 6 cylinder engine
3 speed manual transmission with the shifter on the column
Miles are unknown it shows 22,000 + miles on the odometer
Has a bench seat, cracked dash, all gauges work
needs a new control for the heater.
Has standard brakes. It has 2 auxiliary gas tanks. They leak
The rust is confined to the door bottoms and the sill plates.
Definitely worth $1K, I think it has 22K original miles. Not enough rust for 122K.

I think I'll have to scoop this thing up.

Re: Great 68 CL deal!

Mileage has very little to do with how much rust a truck has (I guess you could argue that a truck with low miles in a salted area saw a lot less salt than one with a lot of miles and therefore is less rusty), but IMO owner care has a lot more to do with it. A truck with 500,000 could have zero rust if it was parked indoors every night and washed regularly, as opposed to a truck with 50,000 that's been parked outside it's whole life and only "washed" when it rains. Then there's location, are the roads salted, etc.

Looks like a decent truck for 1K.

Re: Great 68 CL deal!

gotta keep in mind that Bradley is from NY too. So as we know, 99% of the trucks in NY at 122k have panels whippin in the wind due to rust.

You are correct, not saying otherwise. Just an observation, as I use to look at things the same way when I moved south

Re: Great 68 CL deal!

Yeah, NY SUCKS! This is my dad's plow truck, or what's left of it You can't really tell, but AT LEAST 20% of the lower body is completely missing. Funny thing is, the truck has less than 80K on it

Badley, offer him $6 or 700 and go from there. You could probably get it for 8 or 9 hundred.

That truck looks nice enough to where you could probably resell some of those extra parts you recently bought and offset the cost!

Let us know how it goes, when do you plan on going to look at it?
