to dyno or not to dyno

I recently acquried a 406 sbc that runs on e85 and just had a cabr built for it, instead of paying 300+ dollars to throw it on the dyno, do you guys think I should try and tune it myself or pay the guy that built the carb do it?! Does 80 an hour sound reasonable on the dyno with tuning?

IMO you can never go wrong with having a motor dynoed, there a just so many more aspects that you can see (like how much fuel is being used, the A/F of each cylinder). Plus you can actually know how much horsepower you have which is always a plus in my book.

PLUS the cam (if not roller) will be properlly broken in.

I would have it dynoed then it will be tuned and if there are any problems you can fix them before you install it. Where are you looking at dyno for $80/hr?
I had mine done here http://randrperformance.com/ and I thought it was about $250 for a 4 hour session.

I've never had one done but it would be cool. I dyno mine on the quarter mile.

6.44 1/8 @ 104.13
10.39 1/4 @ 125.83

Nitrous Times:
5.785 1/8 @ 118.65 with a 1.336 60ft
9.168 1/4 @ 142.58 with a 250 shot dead out of the hole!

I am a believer in the chassis dyno . I found around 40 HP in carb tuning . I also drag strip dyno .

I use the butt dyno myself... I floor it and see what my butt does.

I like a chassis dyno too. Be for warned they will hurt your feelings!

Ya , First pull he said 260 Hp But just get a baseline and work from there . I had alot of little things to fix and then went to carb and timing .

I'm a dyno whore. I could spend all day perfecting a tune. I think I have made over 75 pulls with my truck..

Yes.. Probably 3-4 different combo's.. What is interesting though, with no changes to the combo, the tune can definately change from day to day with different density altitude..
