1959 gmc 6" lift

i have a 59' gmc, unfortunately its only a 2x4, but plan to make it a 4x4 with a lot of money and a lot of work. but anyway im going to lift it bout 6 inches with some custom leaf springs and 36's on a 16 wheel, i still have manual steering and was wondering if it was going to affect my steering at all, i do go rock climbing and screw around in the mud a lot, but also use the truck for driving to school. the only reason im getting the lift is so i can use it more for rock climbing and cant invest in power steering because of all the work that has to be done to it (4x4 conversion).

THANKS FOR THE HELP!!!!

Re: 1959 gmc 6" lift

Do you mean rock climbing, like when you park the truck and go climb rock faces or do you mean rock crawling?I figure the latter. You can lift a 2wd like that easy w/o new springs.Just do an axle flip, put axle under the springs. When I lived in Flagstaff a friend and I did his Taskmaster 3/4t.Everyone thought it was a 4wd.He didn`t have p/s and ran 33s.I ran 14.50/37s on a Power Wagon and then a K/20.I was young and strong, never phased me.

Re: 1959 gmc 6" lift

ya i ment rock crawling, i want to get more into it thats why i want to get some new leaf springs, the old ones are the stockers and are sagging a lot, but will the lift affect the steering? its bad enough trying to steer the thing with the stock equipment but what will the 6 inch lift do and how could i make it a little easier to drive?
